What do you think of this for a business card?

I agree and I think it's the best promo-related idea thrown out so far. Building on that, the only thing that could make that idea better, IMHO, is if (within budgets constraints) could be a logo-covered box of long wooden matchsticks, rather than just a pack of short tear-off matches. That...

    Firewooder in a hurry!!!!

By charging by the hour, bringing his PDA into the woods with him, and sending jokes to the folks on arborsite? :hmm3grin2orange:

What do you think of this for a business card?

Have you licensed use of the image(s) for commercial purposes? If not, that's technically a copyright violation, and would represent a liability to the business. Whether you'd ever get caught or legally challenged for unauthorized use is a whole different discussion -- one that's not germane...

What do you think of this for a business card?

I think that unless you change the operational focus a bit, you're emphasizing the web site way too much on this card. When one goes to mikethefirewoodguy.com, all you see is one offer (early bird special price, without any details), and...the same "call-me" phone number and e-mail address that...

Cherry, hate to saw it up for firewood.

When the mills would not take the wood, the only folks I know who've sold cherry did so by lining up a furniture maker (business) and wood-turner (hobbyist) before the take downs. The vast majority of available cherry ended up as firewood or fence rails, however.

    Free Firewood Wanted

Check more north by Fitchburg and Leominster -- they got so badly nailed by ice storms in December; there was tons of free wood available when I was in the area during the ski season, and likely is a lot now too as people have some more cleanup in the Spring.

Golden Euonymus - Not Growing... Advice?

Obviously no deer problems for you in Mableton. Euonymus is a favorite for them. In my neck of the woods, these would have been chewed down to the ground -- even with the close proximity to the house.

Straight pipe / through the wall

Keep in mind how close to a corner you want the pipe to be as well. One initial 90 degree bend is not optimal from a drafting perspective, but is better if space is tight and you want the pipe as tight as possible in a corner (compared to where a top-venting pipe would go, which would have to be...

    Anyone burn Elm?

I concur with the others that elm is quite nice for burning once seasoned well but can be a bear to split. In addition, one other point to keep in mind is that elm should be kept off the ground -- it can get real punky real fast if left on the ground. I got some elm a few years back (in...

    Free Firewood Wanted

Wood and chips in Northern Westchester County, NY I'll throw my name into the mix as well. I can use hardwoods of any size as well as wood chips (derived from any wood). I live in Yorktown Heights, NY I have a 4x8 trailer, and just ordered a new Husky Rancher (455), so I can come and...

    Exposed tree roots

It's not just the canopy at work -- Norway maples also produce a phytotoxin that eventually "poisons" the soil for other plants (but not Norway maple saplings) growing in the tree's area. That makes mulch the best and most reasonable option -- unless one wants to constantly fight with the tree...

    How small do you split?

I agree that anything smaller than 3" diameter just goes on the wood pile as is. With regard to how short to stop when cutting to length, the answer is simple -- nothing. I cut and use everything. Even the scrap ends that I get when cutting logs to stove size (in my cutting box) are saved in...

New Home, Question about the Trees

I agree silver maple that's been topped but at first blush, based on the bark damage, I thought it was a sycamore!

    Stupid wheelbarrow repair

One idea is a fiberglass resin and cloth kit. I used that as the cover (layered on top of a wire fence base) once to take care of a floor rust out on one of my first cars. Rock solid when dry, waterproof, and you can even shape it or smooth it if desired. Just make sure it's OK for use on...

Anyone familiar with the Chopper 1 axe?

I've had one for almost 20 years now. Use it a lot when I want to do manual splitting and it still has the original handle! It works best on straight-grained wood. (The more ornery stuff gets the wedge-and-sledge treatment.) Leave plenty of space -- the splits can go flying 15 feet or more...

    Heating with Apple wood

My wife likes the pretty blue flames associated with burning apple wood too

    Heating with Apple wood

Ideal-size apple for longer burning is 6-8 inches diameter, in my experience. Anything bigger doesn't fit well or takes too long to catch; whereas much smaller splits burn fairly quickly (and with a lot of ash), as you know. I agree with others that if you have to burn it, it works best as a...

Ran out of bar/chain oil.....5w30 ok in a pinch?

In the manuals for lots of (especially low-end) saws, you'll see that SAE 30W (or equivalent) oil is often listed as an acceptable substitute for bar and chain oil. At this time of year, unless you're using the Winterized bar and chain oil, you're already probably needing to cut it with...

Ideas for finding free or cheap firewood?

Easiest is what you can see close to home. For example, last night at 10 PM, I heard a very large crash from somewhere out back of my property. Turns out with all the ice we had in my area, that the Y-notch about half way up on a 65-foot red oak split and then the base trunk practically exploded...
