    nother nice older saw

Over the last few years I have picked up a couple of pretty nice old oe346's , 2000 & 2001 models, one I paid a fair price for & the other I have a little over $100 in. Last week on craigslist was a Husky 351 for sale, not really knowing much about the model I googled it and lo & behold this...

    bar fit

I just picked up a like new 16" total bar 3/8-50, the guy said it's been laying around his garage for 10 years and he wasn't sure what it was for but he did have John Deere saws back then. I find it will fit a large husky saw but the sprocket end of the bar is a bit wider than the d0009, can I...

    old mac

Back in the early 60's I worked in the woods in Wis. cuttin railroad tie logs for Jess Peterson's mill east of Luck.. The saw I used back then was a McColloch D44, so when one recently popped up on C L I went and picked it up. It has it's share of little things wrong, for instance the pin for...

My brother gave me his old saw yesterday

He bought it back in the late 70s or early 80s up in Siren Wi., he used it to cut much of the diseased elm at that time and cleared an addition to a golf coarse and needed 15 cord to heat the old house he lived in. Scratched in the paint by the gashole is 16-1, also in marker on the top cover...

    ok, what did I get?

I stopped at a garage sale this morning and picked up an old Stihl, it has a hand guard not a chain brake, a horizontal engine, the muff is behind the clutch cover and the spark plug in the back. It has a 20" hard nose bar, gas tank and starter seem to be one piece, has rubber av. The choke...

    kudos for Dolmar

Had occasion today to do some muffler work on a blue Dolmar 6421, when I came to put the muffler back on I find they have these little tabs in the bolt holes in the heat shield, you have to thread the bolts into the heat shield which holds it, the gasket and the muffler all together making it...

    Makita 6421 again

Well this time I got one of these, we all know where they come from. The saw is used but apparently not abused, I pulled the plug and looked in the cyl., it looked good and the plug color was dark chocolat brown so it wasn't running lean. It started on 4 pulls, it has a full chain on it but...

Good saws at a good price on craigslist don't last long.

Yesterday at about 5:00pm here in MPLS. was an MS440 that looked pretty good for $375, it was gone this morning. Today at about 3:30 pm there is an ms362 you can plainly see the Stihl word on the bar yet, this one is only $250, I'm thinking it won't make it to 8:00 oclock. John

After all these years I finally got a grinder

Last week on C L was an Oregon 511a with a nice heavy duty adjustable stand made out of about 3" heavy tubing and about a 24" base, it also has a 1/2" hard rubber insulator under the grinder. He said he bought it 5 years ago and used it the first year to cut his firewood and then moved to a...

    chain size question

I recently picked up an incomplete 346xp to build and the chain fits the .325 sprocket and the .325 bar but has very small teeth, these cutters are almost gone but there is a little life left in them but there is no way I can sharpen them with a 3/16 file, a 1/8 works fine. Is this a narrow...

    magic file

I got six badly abused chains with a saw I was given, they are all full chizzle chain and they look like they have hit a lot of steel, ther'e not rough like from hitting rock but smooth with the points bent in and the corner tapered way back, and a couple of em have been sharpened at about a 50...

    free saw

Went out to cut down the top of my hedge with a poulan 2900 with 20" bar this afternoon and of course I touched one of the wires of the fence that lives in the hedge, so I was sitting in the door of my garage filing chain when a guy stops in the ally and gets out and tells me he sees me here...

    another good deal

Bought another of my favorite saws today, a Poulan 2900 never been run, tanks are dry, not a mark on the sprocket, the usual 20" bar but no chain, have box and owners man. The last one I bought I paid $7.00 dollars for and it had 3 extra new chains with it. The one I got today I had to pony...
