Thanks for the update and I'm glad you got the ambition and desire to get back to it, looks like it should be a great asset around the house.

Fan Forced outdoor wood furnace worth it?

Go with a water stove. It can be farther from the house for safety reasons. Longer burn times, the air stove has no ability to store heat. I have both, I have an air stove outside of my garage, I like it for the fact I can let it go out and light it when needed and not worry about it freezing...

Last fire of the year? Bittersweet

I made the decision to not put any wood in the OWB last night. It will have hot ash in it for a few days but I should be able to shut the circulator off later today.

I’m building a winch to pull large fat lighter stumps out of the ground, could use some advice/help

Two things so far: 1) keep it low to the ground, stand back 2) You don't want it too slow so do the math and figure out the speed before you start welding/bolting OK three, 3) are you planning on welding and if so how are your welding skills and equipment? Don't want to see anyone get hurt from...

Last fire of the year? Bittersweet

My OWB is still going but I have been thinking that probably this week I will shut it down. I installed two heat pumps last summer so I'm sure they can handle cool nights. It's supposed to hit 80 later this week. One "issue" with my OWB setup is that my circulater pump runs 24/7 and the heat...

Am I in danger of killing my whole family by poisoning from outdoor wood burning boiler water contamination?

Can you attach a pic with the two lines going to and from the OWB marked on the plate HX

Am I in danger of killing my whole family by poisoning from outdoor wood burning boiler water contamination?

bypass for summer use? One question about your OWB, is it a pressurized system or an open system? Mine is a Heatmor and is an open system for all practical purposes. You should be able to put a garden hose into the top vent and fill it that way. When I installed mine I added a fill line to the...

A hydraulic ram pulls as hard as it pushes

Here are some hydraulic calculators for future reference. https://www.baumhydraulics.com/Home/Page/speccalculators use #1 they typically pull with less force than they push with as stated above. You lose the volume of the rod diameter. some fun info for anyone interested...

    Stove installation questions...

Sounds to me like you are shutting the stove down too much and too soon. What stack temp are you running? Stoves need air. Try putting less wood in and leave the drafts open some more for longer periods. Keep an eye on it of course.

    Bypass catalytic combuster

I would be more concerned with why they are clogged in the first place. Admittedly I know nothing about your particular stove but I thought the whole reason for cats is to burn clean. They need to be run hot no? ETA: Greta would be very mad at you if you remove them...............LOL

    Plasma cutter recommendation

I'm from the "buy once, cry once" camp I wouldn't buy anything but a Hypertherm but that's me. The first one I bought was a new Hypertherm Powermax 30, it did OK up 1/4" but struggled with 3/8". No I have a Hypertherm Powermax 900 that will sever 1 1/8" steel, cut's 3/8" like butter. One thing...

    Tractor Skidding Winch Build

Yup, you'll find the weak spots as you go. I knew from the start that a single shaft wouldn't hold up so I made a top bracket to have the shaft in double shear, never had an issue with that.

    Tractor Skidding Winch Build

Another tid bit of information is when you wrap the log with your choker wrap it so that the log has to roll a little thereby starting the momentum. If that makes sense, especially on the larger stuff.
