No oiler adjustment on my 2017 Husqvarna 450 -20" ???

I have a 450 Rancher with a 20" bar. It seems to oil okay but slow to start. Before I start cutting I always squirt a bunch of 30 wt. on the bar and chain.

    Stretching your wood supply

I finally burned what I cut in 2004 and started working on the new stuff. It's nice to live in the south. 73° outside right now.

    Fertilizing

Brian, I've learned though soil testing that every place on my land has slightly different nutrient needs but one thing is common. My soil always wants mass quantities of lime. I've also learned that my water is so acidic I have to run it though a neutralizer or it eats my copper pipes. I...

    Who sweeps their own chimney

I use a 8" round wire brush, weighted with a brick, on a rope. Drop the brickbrush downhole repeatedly until it smoothly reaches bottom. Every year before burning season.

    Fertilizing

Thanks Hokie. I usually just sling my ashes across the lawn but was thinking they may do more good if put around some of these young trees. I suppose it can't harm them if the N is gone. We have an extremely acid soil here.

Is hardwood ash good fertilizer for young eastern red cedar and virginia pine?

Are you ready for the COLD weather coming?

Oh Yeah, I'm finally getting to put fire in the stove again. We haven't needed any heat in our house since a few days before Christmas. Time to burn up some red oak

    Best Use For Ashes

Ya, I cast them to the wind and they fertilize my grass.

    65 degrees and nice.

We've had to run the AC down here since Wednesday morning. I'd much rather be feeding the stove than burning electricity.

    Favorite green wood to burn.

Green live oak is great to burn. Just don't let it dry before splitting.

So who is NOT watching Ax Men on history channel???

    Sharpening Stihl RS

Nuzzy, No, there's no adjustment for that. I guess the concept is to continually maintain the ideal relationship between cutter and raker. You do have to reverse the files within the unit to sharpen the left side teeth. This takes about two seconds. Glenn, I'll post up some pics and a...

    Sharpening Stihl RS

I went to town today with every intention of buying this Stihl kit but my dealer said he had something better and easier for me. It sharpens the teeth razor sharp and does the depth gauges all in one operation. So simple that even the mechanically challenged can quickly service a chain as...

    skidding firewood logs

Running that Deere skidder through the woods is like driving a house. Even though it's highly maneuverable, you don't have to bother with going around too much of anything. With the blade on the front, you simply go through it or over it.

    skidding firewood logs

A friend has one of these. http://www.deere.com/en_US/cfd/forestry/deere_forestry/skidders/848h_forestry_general.html Of course, it isn't used for firewood but running one of these is about as much fun as you can have in the woods with your pants on :biggrinbounce2:

    Sharpening Stihl RS

Avalancher, except for a period of eight years when I was occupied with other things, I've used a chainsaw frequently and extensively since I began cutting in 1965 at 13 years old. The last 20 years, since leaving the north country, my major saw usage has been in maintenance of our commercial...

    Sharpening Stihl RS

I've read through this entire thread again and there's something I find interesting. Even though the most highly respected dealer of commercial power equipment in my area thoroughly inspected every aspect of this bar before proclaiming it suitable for continued use with non-standard chains...

    Sharpening Stihl RS

Steve, my dealer checked the slot width and depth with gauges and said it was evenly worn with no distortion and nothing that needed to be filed, cleaned up or adjusted. He saw no problems with it at all, including the nose sprocket. He said the .058 chain was a perfect fit and he ensured it...
