    inboard vs outboard

for what reason sunfish? the 346 is definately the best handling saw imo.

346 xp Is not available in Canada? Why?

I would go Stihl if the price difference is that big. Funny how the Stihls are usually a bit dearer across the pond though.

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

This could explain a lot. I use the chain for jobs that look rubbish so it has to deal with rubbish quite often, including glass. Also got a lot of barbed wire in the trees I'm cutting too stihl crazy but try my best to pick my way round it. What is tempur btw?

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

The wood wasn't particularly dirty, just a bit rough, hence why I didn't fancy using the RS. Thanks for the replies guys...

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

Don't understand what you mean count? I will get some pictures of the offending chain on Monday when I am back at work. I sharpen my other chains exactly the same and never encounter this problem. Maybe I will sharpen it back quite a bit to try and get it right. I'm using 3/16" files. Also Oregon.

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

Teeth and rakers both filed with correct Oregon file kit. Rakers re profiled too. I don't mean the chain was loose on the bar, there seemed to be more movement in the chain off the bar, i.e looser rivets? As if they were worn and ready for the bin.

    Stihl '8' saws shape

Just wondered why the saws in Stihl's 8 range are shaped different to others such as 4's and 6's? for example: The 028 The 038 The 048 I seem to like the look of these saws, especially the 048. Seems like an interesting beast. :)

I thought that too... But then again, i am simple... :msp_bored:

    inboard vs outboard

We were on about that the other day... Does just seem alot easier in general hence why i was wondering if there was any particular reason for the outboard. I can understand that the clutch is hot and if it's obviously outside the saw then it should dispurse quicker and cause the saw to run...

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

0.58 guage. The rakers have been filed exactly the same as all my others. I always do it even if i take nothing off i still do them. I noticed the chain felt a bit 'loose' when being handled off the saw compared to the Stihl, as if some of the links weren't quite right? The chain isn't that old...

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

Will get one on Monday for you. Don't see how sharpening could be the reason as I sharpen all my other chains and non of them have this problem... :msp_unsure:

    Oregon bpx embarasses my 346!!

I have been on with some site clearup which has involved a few tree's having to come down and hedge reduction and clearing etc. I have been using some Stihl RS chain with pretty good results. Got to some dirty wood so decided to swap out to Oregon 21 (think it was bpx) which had just been...

    inboard vs outboard

Recieved my new sprocket today for my 044 that went bang and just wondered for what reason Stihl decided to go with inboard clutches and husqvarna with the outboard clutch? Is there any advantage to outboard? Just thinking that if i needed to replace the sprocket on a husky then it would be a...

    044 going well!!

I did a search on here before i posted this thread and found that someone's friend had the exact same problem. I could understand it if i had hit something in the cut, the tree had signs of barbed wire running through it, but the cut was clear. Put the 346 in the same kerf and it finished it off...

    044 going well!!

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no use for a 24" bar other than to stop me bending over as much. Lol. It's really suited to the 20". I am considering the dual port muffler but would like to get a tach first so I can adjust the carb correctly. It has 90% of the power I would like so...
