0000 190 3402 (example application ms 250) 1128 190 3400 (example application ms 361) 1122 190 3400 (example application ms 600) these are the three that i am aware of (and probably the ones you are talking about). there are no two different stihl parts which share the same...

    Elasto-start

and then the bungee cord breaks.... you should check out the newer briggs/kohler engines. you can pull the cord half the speed of smell and they take off on the first pull. i have never had a customer that could never start one. its the 6.75 engines, and maybe but im not sure, the 6.25...

Bar and Chain smoking have to be oil, right?

causes for this: bar oil. either it is not getting there, not enough is getting there, or it is extremely low quality. chain. a dull chain is often times the culprit. could be cutters or rakers. you stated it was a new chain, so this is most likely not your problem.

    long term saw storage

run the saw dry completely so that there is no fuel left in it. piston at tdc. plugging the exhaust is not a bad idea, as said to keep the critters out. or run it dry and put about a half tank of "50 fuel" or stihl motomix in it and run it for 15 minutes or so. these fuels have a 2 year shelf...

part #1122 190 3400 is the large elasto-start grip with rope.

    Elasto-start

the elasto-start is a nice feature, especially on those cold mornings when your hands are frozen. also, if you are having problems with your rope breaking, this could be due to drop starting.

Dealer says 441 M-Tronics are junk

a computer to fix a new vehicle? only if you have to get on youtube and look up a how-to video... a "scan tool", which is what i assume you are talking about, is a good tool that helps you diagnose the problem. it does not tell you what is wrong. let's go back to the 60's. let's say you...

    MS 170 turning 14700 RPM's

i would suggest running the saw 50:1, as stihl reccomends to start. however, that would not cause your problem. if you dont have an air leak, it is carb time :)

stihl making new run of 440's

stihl is going to make another run of 440's pretty soon, i didnt know if any of you had heard anytning about it. they have enough "green credits" to make a few because of all the new clean units coming out. no clue on how many they are making or when they will be available though.... anybody...

    MS361 muffler and bar questions

basically what he said. the screen is a spark arrestor. you can take it out, but NOT if you are under osha or cutting in any kind of national forest, preservation, basically anywhere that people dont want to catch on fire. removing the screen will not effect the performance of the saw. normal...

What chain to get with NEW 261

just get the rsc chain. if you run into some dirty wood, put the rsc3 safetey chain that came on the saw back on it. the rounded cutter will stay sharp longer in the nasty stuff. it is also easier to learn how to file on, it is much more forgiving than a chisel chain is. you will need a .325...

    super or regular gas

where i live, 87 octane (in general) has a higher ethanol content than 89 or 92 octane. 92 is a waste, but i run 89 with stihl ultra, and i reccomend all of my customers do the same. also, if you have a jug of gas that you got a month ago, pitch it. if your saw will sit for a month or longer...

    Broken Chain Cutter

this isnt a uncommon problem, but i usually see it on the .43 picco chain lol. it wont hurt anything. file it smooth, and take the raker off. problem solved :)
