Got a red top Dolly 6400 at an Amish auction :)

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I think I will build it as a 7900 (or 8400), but that is a good option. I think I will use this saw to run my lewis winch, so I want it to have as much power as possible.

Got a red top Dolly 6400 at an Amish auction :)

I'll take some pictures today. It has been a while since I have done that, I'll have to try and remember how that works :)

Got a red top Dolly 6400 at an Amish auction :)

Thanks Brad! It has been a while. When we were at the auction I was standing with my wife and said' "I won't be bidding on any saws" and then within a couple minutes I saw this thing going for nothing and had to jump in. I don't think any of those fellas had any idea what a Dolmar was :). A...

Got a red top Dolly 6400 at an Amish auction :)

Picked up a 6400 today for $10!!!!!!!! at an Amish auction. It has real low compression. I haven't even taken it out of the car since I bought it, but I assume it needs a top end. Trying to decide between aftermarket and Mahle OEM. What would you do? What are the best kits for these? I have...

    Stihl 441C vs C-M identification

"C" just means that it has an additional "comfort option" over the standard model. There is not a Stihl saw model where some are rubber AV and some are spring. They may have stiffer or softer AV, but they do not switch AV systems within a model.

What?!!! You didn't even try to get a "deal"??? :)

    440vs372vs372xtorque

The 441 handles a little different from other saws in its class but when you get used to it they are a precision instrument. When I bought my first one in 2008 it was going to be used for felling and smallish milling. I have since taken on some logging jobs and it has proven to be a really fine...

    440vs372vs372xtorque

If I had to pick one it would be the OE372 I guess, (I have never run an X-torque 372) but really I prefer the newer offerings from Stihl over all of them (and I actually prefer a 576xp over them as well). Can't wait to see what Husky comes out with next.

    OK, Canola oil. WTH?

I have used pure canola in my saws for about 4 years now with no issues. I don't store saws with it in them.

    Newbie Questions

I dropped and bucked a few after work on Thursday. My friend with the horses lives less than a quarter mile from where we are working. We decided that before I went all out, she should make sure the boys are gonna be up to the task. She is going to walk the team down early this week to skid them...

    Newbie Questions

Thanks guys. That's about what I thought. I ain't worried about getting rich, I just want to get my feet wet and understand what people get paid to do this.

    Newbie Questions

So I have been cutting for a while now. I have been felling decent timber (east coast) semi-regularly for about 6 years, mostly for my own milling and building projects, so I know my way around the woods pretty well for a guy that has never cut professionally. Anyway, I am in a situation where I...

    Will a Jonsered 2171 piston ring fit a Jonsered 70 E?

2171 and 371 are different saws. I don't know if the rings are the same, but the 2171 is a 372 not a 371.

    Saw mill near Minneapolis?

I have a friend in need of some specialty lumber in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Anyone know of one? Amish or otherwise?

    Burned up my 346xp!!!!!

This wasn't a case of simple lending. I don't typically lend chainsaws either. This was a situation that I was helping out with, but giving them a little bit of slack on the leash, so to speak. I had gone over chainsaw usage pretty thoroughly and had watched them use the saw. That being said, I...

    Burned up my 346xp!!!!!

It was at my house, I live out in the woods and they were unsupervised on the other side of the property. I gave them detailed safety instructions over the course of a few days. These are college students that we are talking about here. I should have gone over saw safety a little more I guess.

    Burned up my 346xp!!!!!

I didn't really even look at the chain when they brought it back. I have been so busy, I just pulled the muffler, said a few "cleansing words" and put it back together till I had time to deal with it. If I was a betting man I would say the chain is dull, but I'll check it out this week. I do...

    Burned up my 346xp!!!!!

Anybody know what a P&C goes for for one of these? It's an NE and I'd like to go OEM. Might not need the cylinder, just wondering. I may message one of our builders and see what it would cost to get it rebuilt and ported in one shot as I don't have much time right now to do it myself.

    Burned up my 346xp!!!!!

Could have been bad gas, but I don't think so as it was non-ethanol and not that old. They were using my fuel, so I know it was mixed right. I think it was more of the dull chain and bogging the hell out of it. They were really sorry, I just told them "don't sweat it, but next time I'll run it...
