    tractor vs skidder

Just like saws, make sure you have a dealer nearby who can get you parts and/or do the service work. Some of the foreign brands are more affordable but parts can be a nightmare to get. If you work machinery for any amount of time, it will break. Keep that in mind.

    "Sometimes a Great Notion"

Glad that you have another one tracked down. I found one through the interlibrary loan after I sent the one copy out. I needed to watch it another time. They are out there if you do a little digging. I think mine came from another state but I'm not sure.

The Movie: Never Give an Inch

I know that I sent the copy on. I posted on sending it when the other post was going around. Don't remember who I sent it to but I'm sure it could be looked up.

    Chainsaw Dealers in NY

I second that, upstate does not mean just north of the da*n city. If you come up by Syracuse there is a great local dealer about a half hour drive north of there. House Trucking is the name. Father and son operation. Been around for decades. Lots of parts and saws. Great service.

    Harness for draft horse

That's a good start. Maybe that horse knows something then. Who was driving the horse at that time? Can they help you with the harnessing and driving? If they are familiar with that horse then you are one step ahead. Maybe you could get the harness that the horse was driven in last or find...

    Harness for draft horse

Good advice guys. Most people see the romantic side of driving a horse or a team behind a nice sleigh in the meadow and all of that stuff. They have no idea how dangerous it can be if you don't know what can happen. Not to scare you MNClimber but I'll give you some things to consider. You...

    Harness for draft horse

Maybe its not in business anymore but I think that I saw an ad once for a harness shop in St. Paul.

    Skidding with horses

Another thing to consider is the length of the skids. Not only is it quicker to have shorter (timewise) trips to the landing, but the horses will be fresher after each trip that way.

    Harness for draft horse

A word of caution, you should really learn how to drive a horse before you hit the woods with him. When horses were used everyday in the woods of experienced teamsters, men and horses still got hurt. There are many things to consider before you do this that you haven't even thought of.

    Chainsaw Mountain

I do a lot of work like that myself Gypo. Not as high in altitude but rock coring is better than some types of drilling. Pay attention to where you put yourself is my advice. Even rods break sometimes.

    suspenders...

I'll second the button style. Often called risers vs suspenders for the clip type. I need to get a pair switched over from clip to button style. Anyone ever switched a set over?

    Missed a great chance!!

adkranger, that's life isn't it? I don't know if I could own that saw and never run it. Seems like a waste of good iron.

    Missed a great chance!!

I wish my father had bought it. He said the funny thing was that they had just bought a brand new MS290 from the dealer the same day. Big difference between an 090 and a 290. The 090 wasn't for sale apparently.

    Missed a great chance!!

My father tells me this story Saturday afternoon. He went to the saw shop on Saturday morning to get some chains ground. He picked up a used 028 that someone tried to sharpen but really made a mess of. As he's getting out of the truck this guy walks by him with a huge saw with a 4 ft bar on...

How Many Saws Have You Snuffed?

Dad's Saw Thought I'd help out dad about 5 years ago with some firewood. Started bucking up a cherry I felled for him in the driveway. Had his old reliable 034 super. Good runnin' saw. Made a few blocks and then the familiar sound that a 2-stroke gets when it jumps up 1000 rpm in a split...
