The worst way to get a saw...

He also has a nice gun collection my brothers are more interested in. The M1 Grand, Mosin-Nagant and M4 look to be keepers too. With a kid in the house, I have no interest in having a gun there.

The worst way to get a saw...

I will certainly keep his saws. Was thinking about maybe selling my 041AV or a homelite bandit that never runs right. He also gave me another homelite super2 so there are actually 2 of those. Just bought him an air filter cover for the 056 for his BDay in Sept 09. He ran the saw without...

The worst way to get a saw...

I also got ahold of his old belt. He was the kind of guy to have a largish buckle on his belt (2"x3" or so) and worn the same one with everything for decades. The night we got home from the hospital, I saw it sitting on the kitchen table. It was just one of those "that is him" things. I...

The worst way to get a saw...

I bought the 6401 with BB kit just after we found out he had terminal cancer. My brother asked me why would I buy the same size saw that i knew i would end up with (sooner than later it turned out!). told him, "This is my saw. The 056 will always be Dad's saw". I dont think he really...

The worst way to get a saw...

He was only 58. We all feel robbed in a sense. At least I got all of the saw in working order last summer and we were able to go cutting together. We cut/split 2 truck loads of firewood in mid Dec 09 before he went into the hospital on the 23rd. The ironhead will be fun. Needs a lot of TLC.

Thanks. Also going to rebuild his 74 XLCH Sportster. Really looking forward to that one.

The worst way to get a saw...

Lost my father after a 1 month fight with colon cancer :jawdrop: Needless to say, 2010 hasn't been a good year so far. Looks like I will end up with his two homelites, 056AV Super and 015A. That puts me at 9 saws. I may need to start thinning the herd...

    Why Dolmar ROCKS!

So buy a new jug/slug and have 2 5100s. :chainsaw:

    Dolmar 5100 wont run

Pull the intake and pull the muffler. Check for scoring. Sounds like it was running too lean or maybe someone did not use pre-mix in her by mistake.

Just tested it cold. 178psi. I guess it did seat right after cutting yesterday! :chainsaw:

New Baileys BB kit not a very pretty sight

Just not worth messing with IMO. If you want it milled, find a machine shop and pay $50 if you don't have a CNC. Too easy to mess up and then you are SOL for sure. I can't cut 4 table legs to be even. That jug would be fubar if I tried to hand file it.

New Baileys BB kit not a very pretty sight

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but I would think getting a flat surface .015-.020 would be very tough free hand.

New Baileys BB kit not a very pretty sight

Don't have it nearby right now to tell you the brand I used for sure. It needs to be fuel rated. I think the kind I got at an autoparts store was the only one they had. Most are water pump and intake/exhaust gasket stuff. Super Tacky or something rings a bell.

New Baileys BB kit not a very pretty sight

Leave off the ring and install the jug without the base gasket. Measure the squish and see where you are at. Ideally, you want to be around .021ish on the squish. Any less, you need a gasket. Any more you want to drop the jug down. For me, there was no gasket and .042 squish. My only...

    Makita 84cc BB install

Ran the saw for 2 tanks yesterday. The first few cuts were "ok", the saw wasn't running as good as I would like. Then it woke up and took off. I am sure everything started to seat and the straight 2 cycle oil worked its way off. I checked compression when I was done at 150psi. It was...

New Baileys BB kit not a very pretty sight

Don't expect to use a base gasket. I just installed mine and it was .042 squish without the base basket. If you plan on porting it, might want to mill it down .015. Of course, measure yours first!

    dolmar 6400

Used fully functional one from HD rental is $200-250. Use that price as leverage.

    Makita 84cc BB install

I will try to get out tomorrow and run the saw some to tune it in. Will try to post new compression numbers after the day and the saw cools down. i would mill off .015 from the bottom but it would void the warranty on the jug.

    Makita 84cc BB install

In the middle of installing the 84cc BB kit from Bailey's. The squish has me concerned though. Before I stripped it down, the squish on the stock jug measured .025 and 175psi cold. I have the new jug installed with ring and gasket (fuel rated) sealant for no base gasket. The squish is .042...
