Novice requests advice on next chainsaw purchase

Go battery electric! I purchased a 16", 40V Greenworks in 2017 and unless I need the 20" bar the ICE saws have a hard time getting used. There's a YouTube channel: "Project Farm" where he compared over a dozen battery saws, good info.

    Dismember Large Root

I've encountered the high pitch wood at most a few times in my 10+ years of harvesting ponderosa deadfall, but never in a root. My sense is that this root will have none. What I do expect is very dense complex grain that will make awesome splitting blocks. Straight grain blocks are destroyed in...

    Dismember Large Root

@ old CB While you are correct about the chain, I see the wood as high quality fuel. Responders missed that the root is ON the ground, NOT in the ground. Added photo to clarify. The ponderosa was a deadfall between two granite outcrops. When it fell the tree lifted the root ~10-feet. The...

    Dismember Large Root

I have a large ponderosa root roughly 4-feet on a side that I'd like to dismember into chunks small enough to feed it to my wood stove. My largest saw is a Husqvarna 455 with a 20" bar. The root is setting on the ground maybe 50' behind my house. Photo added, bicycle added for scale. One thought...

What is this growth on Pinon

Spot on!!! My 10 acres is 90% Pinon, with a few Ponderosa. I can only get ~4-feet off the ground with the Pinon. If I went to 6' there would be no tree. With the Ponderosa I can get to 8'. I'm in the upper Arkansas in Chaffee Cty. I'll also do some of the adjacent NF & BLM close to the house...

What is this growth on Pinon

Not getting a reply I contacted the Colorado State Forest Service, this is their reply: The dense, broom like branch pattern is suggestive of either dwarf mistletoe or broom rust fungi. Dwarf mistletoes are small parasitic plants that grow out of the small twigs and branches of a tree. They...

What is this growth on Pinon

I have 10-acres of Pinon surrounded by thousands of acres of Pinon (NF & BLM). I'm pruning off the lower branches preparing for the next wave of this drought in Colorado. One tree has this strange growth, see pics. What is it? Should I remove it? Any comments/thoughts? The growth is the...

Oil Cap Fell Off - Husqvarna 455

Saw wouldn't cut, went to put on a sharp chain and noticed no oil cap, hence no bar oil. From a past experience dry chains won't cut. Had my 435 with me, its oil cap fit so drained the oil from the 435 to the 455. Cut fine once the bar and chain got some oil. I can only assume I didn't tighten...

Cordless Chainsaws and Outdoor Power Equipment

Can only speak to the Greenworks 40V but it has a translucent window clearly showing oil level. From experience 2 battery charges and the oil tank needs a refill. Also, the sprocket cover needs removing for the massive accumulation of oily chips.

    Stihl ms441c dying while cutting

I got a Zama carb kit on eBay for my 435, $12 shipped. Made a big difference, the plastic diaphragm was defective day one.

    Husqvarna 445 Need Some Opinions

I got mine (435) on eBay, search for a "Poulan carb tool", seems I paid $5, but been a couple of years.

    welch plugs

That's just what I did in my Zama EL41 rebuild. Used all the parts except the welch plug. Had no clue either how to get it out or back in once removed. The saw a Husky 435 which frequently died while cutting and was hard to restart w/o multiple presses on the primer bulb. I concluded I had a...

    Remove Carburetor from Husky 435?

Sorry, no magic bolt under the handle. However getting the handle out of the way did provide better access and vision. For me the answer was to use a small screwdriver to pry the primer bulb out of its case location. Then pry the Guide Sliding Shoe out of a rubber grommet. That freed the filter...

    Remove Carburetor from Husky 435?

Best I understand, those are all removed AFTER the carb is out, otherwise none exist? Thanks

    Remove Carburetor from Husky 435?

Still attached. According to the IPL it goes through the "Guide Sliding Shoe" not sure how that critter attaches to the filter assembly. I tried prying it off, didn't budge. Ideas? Thanks

    Remove Carburetor from Husky 435?

How do I get the Carburetor out of a Husky 435? Here's what I've done so far: Removed the air filter and wire bail Removed the 3-large allen screws Took off the red choke lever Disconnected the 2-electrical leads below the choke Disconnected the two hoses to the primer bulb The filter...

Ever try an un-shaped grinding wheel to sharpen?

Isn't this an "un-shaped" wheel? It grinds using the flat side of the wheel and gives a straight flat surface to the tooth at a 60 deg angle. Seems this is how all OEM chain is sharpened and only a file or small wheel provides a concave tooth.

    Chainsaw photography

Do you have a video, or know of one, of that thing in action? Looks mean!
