If price wasn't a factor, what processor would you buy?

I have a cord king model 36 (16-30). It's pretty good. It doesn't like wood over 14" though and I am always fighting with crooked longs, bumps, and branches. That being said, I'd recommend the cord king to anyone doing more than 200 cord a year or so who has decently straight logs. FYI, you WILL...

What method/Devices do you use to Measure your mix?

The Stihl oil containers have a see through stripe (with 100 ml increments marked of course) on the side. If you buy one, you can buy any brand or size after that and use that as your measuring cup! I like using a 500 ml and puring from 1 litre containers into it.

Cutting Red Oak on a Slope

Standing uphill of the block you are about to cut is a good start. Always make sure you have a secure footing. I suppose you don't have anything to drag the tree down with.

    Standing Elm or Logs

My experience is that standing dead elm is fully dry (i.e. cannot get any dryer). Logs on the ground may not be fully dry depending on if the make contact with the ground and whether weeds/tall grass were around them.

Garlic growers, hows this years crop?

My garlic grows like nuts. In fact, it multiplies rapidly in my flower beds where I accidentally planted it thinking it was daffodils.

Honda 6.5 hp vs. Suberu Robson

OK. So this is about the engine on a SuperSplit HD, but it does not really matter what the engine is for. The Suberu is half a hp more and about $100 less. The Honda is a Honda (GX of course). I'm quite torn.

Loose to Stacked ratio for firewood

First of all, I want to make sure the question is clear. We all know that a cord is 128 cubic feet. We all know that 128 feet of loosely thrown wood will not stack up to 128 cubic feet. As a minimum, you'd have to add 20% (so 154 cu ft loose is 128 stacked) For purposes of selling wood, I'm...

    Formula for piled firewood ??????????

Weight is accurate if you know the species. There are tables online which (for example) tell you a cord of green hard maple weighs this much, a cord of dry hard maple weighs this much, etc. This becomes very useless when you have a mix of different types of wood or you don't know how dry it is...

    Mastermind MS460 weekend special arrives!!

I'm jealous as hell. I want that saw!!!

    New Echo

I think Echo saws are taking over as the best all around saw. The Poulans you find in Home Depot are poor quality and Stihls are too expensive.

    Thinking a cord?

It's not quite a cord, but over 3/4 imo. Those extended cab pickups are deceptive in that they don't actually have a long bed. The trailer is very narrow and short too.

    Anyone Still Burning Firewood?

    Makita choice

I have a Makita that was abandoned here. It required a more expensive repair than it was worth, so i almost threw it in a lake. Then against my better judgement I gave it the new spark plug.

What Was Your First Job In The Woods

I worked the lever of a wood splitter at the age of 6. Slashed 1/2 inch to 2 inch trees with a stihl 028 av (my first saw) at the age of about 13 which would be my first non-family paid work. I can probably say I was cutting wood independently at the age of 16. My father laid off his hired...

    Nebraskas worst looking firewood business

Wow. And I thought the 100 cord i had log length on a plowed field this spring was a mess! The snow melted in the spring and the field got muddy!

    Changing raker angle file position

The distance marked in red will not matter noticeably. This is proven by personal experience using chains where the tooth is filed to the point of being almost gone and still getting performance like a new chain. Now, the method of lowering raker height you are suggesting seems to have no...

Sold Canadian guys , I'm looking for a very good 088 MS880 PHO

I am in Ontario as well, and I have almost never seen a person sell one. One company I used to work for owned 3, and the county has one, but other than that I see mostly MS 660 / 066 and lower. The reason, IMO, is that there is rarely a need for a bar over 24".

broken echo 8000 flywheel fin. what now?

Those Echos have a fairly long warranty....I doubt they'd cover it though. lol

    Great......Now Echo thinks they're Stihl

I'm such a fan of my 80 cc Echo CS 800 right now, I would actually purchase the smaller Echo over the Stihl right now. I would still need to save at least $50 though or get some extras. I fully blew up a Stihl MS 440 one time through no fault of my own...$800 out the window. Echo would have...

Former Stihl fanboy now becomes Echo fanboy

So after blocking maybe 200 cord since I got my Echo CS 800, I've got to say that it can hold it's own against any chainsaw in its weight class. I've been a big fan of Stihl for many many years, and have even got "flamed" a few times for telling people Stihl is the best (lol@ what I said on...
