    Recommendations for OWB

I have the Hawken HE-2100 and love it. Hawken was very good in helping me out when I had a less than reputable dealer and has always been very responsive. I have heard of several of the Hawken OWB failures, but only know of one HE-2100 (and it was actually an older Global unit) that has had...

    Stumped!

My truck is a short bed with a B & W turnover ball. You can then add the "companion" for towing fifth wheel trailers as well. You will still be limited by your 1/2 ton's vehicle weight rating, but towing a gooseneck is nice. With the addition of a brake controller and some air bags or helper...

So you want to split in the dark, you say......

I love splitting this time of year. Nice and cool, no mosquitoes, but like everyone has been saying, gets dark very early. I just use the lights on the back rack of my truck and the head light on the tractor. I typically have the logs already bucked and the rounds are stacked ready to split...

My Central Boiler CL6048 OWB Installation Thread!

The pex I used in my install has aluminum sandwiched in-between the plastic, basically an aluminum pipe with a layer of plastic on the outside and a layer on the inside. It was very easy to install because it bends pretty easy and holds it's shape. If I had to do the install again I would pay...

    Speeco 22 ton problem

Prior to purchasing mine I did some research and found that these briggs engines had "issues." There are several threads on this site discussing these problems and also solutions. One of the most common solutions was the addition of a fuel shut-off. I added the shut-off and also squeezed a...

    Anybody seen this splitting axe?

I have found that after a good sharpening it works much better in difficult wood to split. I was extremely impressed with it's performance until I got my first Fiskars. And yes, it's the perfect splitting axe if you want to feel like Paul Bunyan. If ya really wind up and hit it hard the...

    Big load

...soccer practice and plowing snow. I know you guys hate the quad cabs and short beds, but with two ankle biters and snow to plow, what's a guy to do? Two trucks? Been there done that. I plow some tight accounts and the short bed is nice. I also very rarely put wood in the back of the...

    Catersplitter Build Thread

Very enjoyable read. Thanks for taking the time to go through the entire build with so much detail and pics. Can't wait for the next contraption and corresponding thread.

    Ohio Michigan Members

Yet it's only a couple of hours from Milwaukee to Muskegon...by ferry. Too bad that sucker is so expensive! I'm in the northwestern part of the lower peninsula, not far from Fifelaker. Definitely interested in a GTG even if it takes everybody a few years to put one together.

    Cord wood

I'm sure he is talking about 1/3 cord. I have noticed in certain parts of the country, including mine, firewood is bought and sold as a "cord," "face cord," "rick," or even "chord" and it is all referring to 1/3 cord of firewood. You could list your cord (128 cu ft) for $100 and it wouldn't...

    Wood Hauler

Nice trailer. Almost too perdy to use for wood. Notice I said almost! :wink2:

Does any one pour used motor oil on there stacked firewood?

In my area it is free to recycle your used oil. There are a dozen or more free drop-off locations for used motor oil. When I have my truck serviced at my repair shop I leave it in the bed and they take care of it. I have the "owb mentality" and that to me is to use it as responsibly as...

    oak score

I think you've worked on my house before. Material shortages usually come when it's deer hunting season or when the salmon are running though.

    Maple & Oak "score"

The homeowner doesn't want any equipment on the yard. It will be taken care of with a small stump grinder by the tree removal company. I would have brought my loader down and dug the stump out if I was allowed to use it to pick up all of the other wood, but that idea was shot down. :frown:

    Anyone else burning yet?

44 degrees when I woke up 2 days ago. I really wished I had a wood stove in the house. There are certainly disadvantages to an OWB and that is one of them. Once I fire it up it stays lit through the winter. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather of fall.

    hard maple/ soft maple???

I enjoy cutting poplar with a big saw and sharp chain. It's like butter! The saw just pulls itself right through the wood and makes woodchips.

    hard maple/ soft maple???

"The scourge of fencelines, field edges, abandoned farmyards, CRP fields, and pretty much anywhere the soil is undisturbed for more than a year or two without mowing or herbicides." Thanks Steve. I googled it after posting since I was curious. I see a lot them in front yards, used as shade...
