    254xpg help please

You are running without a bar and chain? Without a bar and chain, the saw may be slower to drop in rpm after revving. There is no chain weight/drag to pull the rpms down as fast as normal. A bad clutch spring can cause similar issues because the shoes stay engaged longer than they should and it...

    Only One Saw?!?!?!?!

Sounds like you need a 044/440 or 272xp or 372xp. The power difference will put a smile on your face.

    Is 125 pounds compresion enough?

I agree, take off the muffler and see how the piston looks. I had a 266 that ran fine at 110psi but the piston was showing some wear, so I replaced it. Your problem may have nothing to do with compression. An air leak test would be a good idea and also a carb inspection. Sometimes the saw will...

    272XP owners-compression psi?

It runs fine this way? What bar are you running? Seems the 272 does not need too much compression. I think your 272 is the same as the XP. They just did not put the lablel on it in some early ones. From what I've read, there was never a non-xp 272 in the US.(despite what the label says).

    Total Noob Question

If you can't get it back on,I'm not sure how it came off. You could pull the clutch and then put brake cover back on and then pull the brake back to disengage. It all comes down to being able to turn the sprocket on the cover without it being mated to the brake handle sprocket. Can you angle to...

    028AV Super

If you want to do it yourself, you certainly can do it if you have the ambition. I don't think there is anything wrong with your seals, based on what you said. Learn how to do a pressure or vaccuum test to check the crankcase for air leaks if you want to remove all doubt. All you have to do is...

    028AV Super

Just turn the gear clockwise while lifting and it will screw right out. The plastic gear is attached to the metal worm gear. Sounds like you are trying to remove just the plastic gear from the metal worm gear. It's all one piece. I had the same problem with mine. Would up prying it off and...

    Stihl Control Problem

Agree about the metal spring. You may need to take to off and reposition switch and whatever it links too. Take off the cover and study the switch area. you'll figure it out.

    6 SECONDS with a new MS-361 (graphic)

That is pretty gruesome to me. Hard to look at. Certainly a serious reminder of how dangerous chainsaws can be. I'm going to look into some better safety gear.

    Help: 044 problem

Has is cut any wood under heavy load? It might run fine until you start cutting something. At 100 psi, it will not perform as well as it's capable of. Hard to believe it will run very well at all under load. If you don't replace the rings it's going to quit running sooner than later. For the...

    Stihl bar/chain gauge .050 or .063

Between the two bar gauges, is there a general rule when deciding on which gauge to go with when you have a choice? The .050 should cut a bit faster-correct? But the .063 would likely be more durable? Given the cutters are the same style,is there much difference in cutting speed between the two...

    Husqvarna 262 questions

So true. The 262xp is one of the best power-to-weight saws around. It has to be one of the best saws Husqvarna ever made.

    First Stihl-028 Super

Funny you mention the oil pump. That is the one thing I'm having a problem with. The gears don't seem to mesh very well. I've done a search and am still learning about this setup. Right now it's getting hardly any oil. The crank gear sits below the oil drive gear-or so it seems. I need to make...

    First Stihl-028 Super

I Decided I wanted to get a Stihl and figured a 028 Super would be a good choice. I've done quite a bit of research on here about the 028 Super. Pretty much regarded as a Stihl classic and I can see why. I bought it in good used condition, After taking it apart it's very clear this thing was...
