    ALB news and info

I can understand your frustration. I imagine it's similiar to what people closer to here are going through with the EAB. I won't even try to justify why what happened to you happened. There is no excuse for property destruction! Please realize that the articles that I posted were sent to...

    trees close to retaining wall

Pictures would indeed be very helpful. Are you sure you NEED to replace the wall? Without pictures, I don't even know what kind of wall it is; it is possible that you might just need to make some minor repairs.... Get us some pictures and we'll see what we can do. There's a lot of tree...

    Killing stumps

Straight Urea fertilizer will speed up the process. Drill the holes and dump it in. There are commercially available products, I'll look when I go to work tomorrow to see exactly what it is called. FWIW, the fastest way is obviously grinding..... Dan

    Hurricane Clean-UP

Bob, and all others considering a purchase: Just a quick reminder that on skidsteers, the rated operating capacity is based on the load it will handle until it tips forward, with the arms at a certain hieght. Wheeled SS are rated at 50% of tip, tracked are rated at 35% of tip, per SAE...

    Leaking oil

Thanks guys! I've had the same problem with my new (to me) 372XP as well. Though I did notice today that I had oil coming out of the side around the bar studs/nuts.... I'll have to track that down now. I've got a feeling it may be due to some dirt/dust, etc. Dan

    Replacing bar tips

Thanks, Russ. Do you know what RSN I need for it, by chance?

    Replacing bar tips

I took some pics today. The first is of the nose, the top is obviously worn worse than the bottom is. The second is the other side of the bar. The third is the numbers stamped on the bar. The end of the second line is "926420 GB", if it's not clear enough. I'm still not sure who the bar...

How many of you make your own Chains?

I easily took apart an old loop the other day with nothing more than my bench grinder and basic hand tools. You just have to realize when you do it that way, you REALLY need new tie straps.:) Basically you just need to grind off the rivet heads and use a small punch and some light hammer taps...

    How to identify wood types

Don't know if it would be any use for you for smoking, but the latest issue of TOH has a blurb about a new book- "The Real Wood Bible: The Complete Illustrated Guide to Choosing 100 Decorative Woods" by Nick Gibbs. It's more for woodworkers, but might be useful to you. They say it retails...

    Replacing bar tips

Ok, it was probably too loose then.:) I'll see if I can get some pics in the next day or two. Thanks, Mike.

    Replacing bar tips

I just dressed the bar today with a mill bastard file... I need to get one of those fancy ones, but the MB is what I had on hand... I checked with feeler gauges, I can get to the bottom of the groove with .050 easily, I think I may have been able to get as much as .052 in there. However...

    Replacing bar tips

A quick search the other day didn't turn up much, so I thought I'd ask... How hard is it to replace the noses on bars? I just bought a used 372XP and the bar is showing some wear, though the worst is on the nose. It's got a replaceable nose, but that's something I've never done. If I can...

How many of you make your own Chains?

Thanks David. I just got my Bailey's catalog today, finally. It's been a while since I've had my hands on one. First glance shows a lot of "I'd like that, and that, and that...."; it'll take a while for me to really go through it.:)

    Rope cleanup at Katrina

Ok, if you are hesitant to use something as strong as acetone, I found this: http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=22695 Here's a quote of an entire post: Hope this helps! Good luck to all in the zone. Be safe! Dan

Wit and wisdom from the trade.

Unfortunately, that's not quite right. If you aren't done with half of the work by 10, it's going to be a loooooong day.:) Dan

    Rope cleanup at Katrina

IIRC, I think I remember someone (JPS???) saying that mayonaise works to remove the pitch... I think the discussion then turned to using either just straight veggie oil or a combination of oil and eggs, or ???. I don't remember for sure. I'll see if I can do some searching here tonight and...

How many of you make your own Chains?

So does anyone have any suggestions on what spinner/breaker to buy? I've got a feeling that it may be a while before I can swing the expense of a full roll, but I'd like some input on what works well... Will the cheap(er) Vise-grips type do it well enough, or should I get the individual...

    Hurricane Clean-UP

Just one slight correction, Jim.... I'm no longer a student at Purdue, in fact I left there over four years ago.:) I'm still in contact with Profs there though, which is how I got that info...... Let us know what you find out. Dan

    Hurricane Clean-UP

That's why I passed that info on to TM... My hope is that he can contact the person who originated the email and get a list pulled together...
