i have a small firewood and brush hogging business. small as in $10,000 a year gross sales for both. use a 5 ft brush mower and pull logs out of the woods and move splits in bucket on front end loader. started out with a 30 hp farm trac. a month after purchase they went out of business. my...

    Flack Hill splitters

no, mine is a single piece of sheet metal with a lip so nothing can roll off the end, serves the same purpose as yours though. sure has saved me a lot of extra bending and allows me to have 2 or 3 pieces staged for splitting instead of one at a time.

    Flack Hill splitters

my speeco is old enough that the add on kit speeco makes didn't work. i'm not handy at all so i rolled into flack hill, asked him to fab up a cradle and i'm real happy with the outcome. sorry, no pictures.

    Flack Hill splitters

can't help you on the splitter he produces. i did have him make a log cradle for my older speeco splitter. good quality work, and a fair price. he is a tight lipped guy, so if you need to be stroked before buying it won't be from him. i was impressed with his set up and will use him again if...

i bought 3 gallons of rural king b&c oil because of the price. won't do that again. thinnest b&c oil i have ever encountered. back to TS for the next batch, or better yet the rare surprise of finding poulan in gallon jugs at walmart.

Can You Make Any Money Doing Firewood?

as long as you go into it knowing you won't make a lot of money you will be okay. i enjoy the whole process of producing firewood, from dropping the tree to putting a tiny bit per cord in the bank. yes it galls me when i see the absolute crap people are trying to pass of as seasoned firewood...

    Black Gum?

worst stuff i've ever split. finally figured the best way to split it is take off splits where the heartwood and sapwood meet. then if remaining sapwood is big enough split it once, or better yet stack it as a round. my brother has a ton of it on his property and i process firewood for him...

    Worst Smelling Wood

after 40 years of turning trees into firewood i kind of like the smell of red oak. hickory smells like horse sweat to me, but again not unpleasant. the worst, at least in my part of the world is ailanthus! nauseating! usually though, on our tree farm it only grows to a maximum 3" diameter...
