Charity Firewood Cutting for Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County WI

Post the date when you know. Hopefully I'll have that weekend open to come help. Need to burn the cobwebs out my 7900. :D

School me on 4 way wedges

I've got a 25T Speeco and I had friend extend the wings on the 4 way so it would split the rounds all the way across. Here is a video I made of it doing some fresh stringy cottonwood. The only catch with extending them is the wedge can't retract behind the welded knockoff bars, but I don't cut...

osburn stove top temp too hot?

I don't have an osburn insert but I do have a Drolet Escape 1800 which is made under the same parent company (SBI) as osburn. I'm going on the 4th season with it and its running at the 600-650°F range for the first few hours of every burn since I've started using it. That's with a magnetic...

    22T Huskee/Speeco Log Cradle

The Speeco Log catcher is on sale for $29.99 this week if you live near a Fleet Farm store. I've had mine on for close to 2 years and its held up fine. The open slats on the catcher worked out nice when I need to hook my ramp on the side to roll the large, heavy rounds I can lift up to the beam.

    Summit vs. Princess inserts

I was in the same situation as you a few years back. Same exact inserts, I went the the BK princess and have no regrets. The BK dealer also showed me the freestanding king model he used in his own home and that helped seal the deal for me to see it in action. I'm sure the Summit would of...

Replacing my beloved Quadrafire with a new Blaze King Princess insert

I've had the blazeking princess insert heating our home for a number of years now and its done as advertised and operated very well. Like the dealer and blazeking owner himself I bought it from said "it takes the BS out of burning wood" My winters are no longer slave to the stove schedule. It...

When burning full time, post how much wood do you burn in a day...

December thru Feb pretty typical is a full cord a month of oak/elm for my home. Oct/Nov & Mar/Apr vary a lot depending on the weather I'd average those at 1/2-2/3 cord per month of popple, box-elder, or conifer species.

NEw home owner, have fireplace, want a wood insert....

Another vote for the Blazeking insert if you have a lot of sq ft to heat. We only use it when it gets real cold out because the freestanding Drolet stove in the basement does a good job for a large part of the heating season doing the basement and upstairs. The blazeking burns well over half a...

    Grr...lost some BTUs to decay!

I've cut and split elm, silver maple, and red oak that was on the punky side in years past and it stored fine under a tin covered stack on pallets very well for almost a year and half until I burned it. Saw no noticeable degrade from when it was split.

Great day to work outside and it was cool to see trailer after trailer drive away heaped full of split wood knowing some day it's going to people in need of a warm home that really will appreciate it. As always a very worthwhile event for anyone to attend.

    Cutting at Harlan's - lots o pics

Good work Steve! Lots of elms around here with generally good straight branches=great stacking sticks of firewood. Can't say the same for most oak branches, mostly twisted and crooked even in less than 16" lengths.

I've got the 14th marked to come up and help. I do have to readjust some other priorities for that day but it looks promising at this point at least.

    My New Favorite Firewood Tool!!!

Out of curiosity what species of firewood were you picking up with these? I've thought about buying a pair but hesitate not knowing if they'll bite into solid hard woods like oak without slipping off?

what is a really good, efficient fireplace insert

I've had the Blazeking Princess insert in our upstairs fireplace and its a beast of its own. We use it when it gets real cold out because it gets the house way to hot otherwise even on low burn. The majority source of heat comes from a freestanding Drolet Escape 1800 made by SBI (like...

Road ditch cottonwoods - pic/vid heavy

Steve its funny you should be updating this thread because I've been burning cottonwood the past two nights and again tonight! Been working real well for this time of year even one load a night in the basement stove gets the upstairs almost to toasty, but I just can't stand to hear the gas...

    Gloves

I've had a good run this year on the same pair of White Ox brand from included on a order from Bailey's. They just wore thru the first layer a couple weeks back now I see how long it takes to wear a hole thru the next layer. I like the way the fit-slightly loose on the fingers and the cuff...

Felling Tree trunks for firewood-summers work almost done.

Gologit I sent you some rep for the helpful pictures of the two Coos Bay cuts.:msp_thumbsup: I printed it off to keep as cheat sheet to refer back on for any future leaner I come across-which we have lots of Boxelder trees that grow just like the oak Marc mentioned in his post, heavy lean with...
