Why do so many people love the 290/390?

    Good one!

Who knows what kinda tree this was>

We haven't started losing our ash trees yet, but I'm sure the emerald ash borer isn't far away. I really think the ash will go the way of the dodo. Hackberry spreads really quickly around here also due mainly to the birds and coons.

Who knows what kinda tree this was>

I've gone back thru the thread and I was mistakenly under the impression that he said it was terrible for firewood. This is why I (and I'm sure others) dismissed hackberry. It is indeed a hackberry, most likely a northern. They do get to be large trees, if given enough time.

Sae 30 used in chainsaw fuel?

Good post! I guess that it's alright to run sae 30 in saw fuel, just maybe not as good as a quality 2-stroke mix. This isn't to say that I'll be switching over to Quaker State though.

Who knows what kinda tree this was>

My original thoughts were hackberry, but I've found it to make good firewood. It definately isn't half weight when it dries out. Most of the time when you have a tree/plant that can't be identified with a few field guides, you have yourself a non-native invasive. You might do a search on the...

    AS CAD forgiveness form?

Original post was laced with sarcasm and good fun. It was true that I spent my saw money, but without regret. Thanks for all the congrats. BTW...I was told that if she was going thru all of this that she doubts little Preslie will be headed to eBay. CAD: Chainsaw Addiction Disorder. State...

    AS CAD forgiveness form?

I may have done the unthinkable. I have spent much of the money I had for a new ms460 on jewelry for the wife! She gave birth to our second child yesterday, so I bought her necklace charms of the girls' birthstones. I had made up my mind on getting a new Stihl 460 next week, but the charms were...

Why do so many people love the 290/390?

I don't understand the problem with someone not needing or wanting an expensive pro saw. I have an 029 that was given to me by my dad and it cuts wood just fine. I want a bigger saw, but not because the 029 is a bad saw. To listen to some on the subject would have me slapping my dad upside his...

    MS 361 Stihl Magnum

The fuel and oil caps are good until someone puts them on wrong. Then they won't seal anymore. I don't know how many times we have been out cutting and someone ends up with a bar oil soaked leg because the cap came off. I won't claim said workers to be the most mechanically sound individuals...

    New model stihl prices

Sounds reasonable to me. I'll probably end up with a 460 to save the $100+. Did I mention my second girl was born today and that we'll be starting our new house in the next couple of months?

    New model stihl prices

This is what I'm thinking. I always try to avoid having to re-buy something because I didn't get what I really wanted the first time. I'm thinking that if I bought the 460 that I'd eventually want a bigger saw. The only trouble is that I really think the 460 would be perfect for my needs. I'll...

Sae 30 used in chainsaw fuel?

I was thinking that "back in the day" that the saws were designed to run on motor oil because that's all there was available. I've got several relatives trying to get me to switch but I couldn't bring myself to doing it.

Sae 30 used in chainsaw fuel?

A local small engine repairman told me that the best thing to use in two stroke engines is 8 oz of sae 30 motor oil with 1 gallon of premium gas. He said that using the regular two-cycle oil will cause it to seize under constant load. He has numerous vintage saws and string trimmers that have...

    New model stihl prices

I've been asking myself this question for weeks now wanting to get a 460, but not sure if I would regret not spending a little more to get the 660. Yet, afraid the 660 would be big enough to limit it's usefulness on all but a few large trees per year. It's a lot of money for a homeowner's...

talk me out of the 026 pro

Warning: Stihl 026 PRO will result in massive quantities of cut wood increasing your wood splitting responsibilities exponentially. Please use with caution as other saws in your collection will seek revenge.

    New model stihl prices

I was in the local saw shop today eyeing the new 460 and 660. Both wear 25" b&c. I was quoted $825 otd for the 460. In reality, the 460 is absolutely perfect for my needs/wants. I cut all hardwood (oak, hickory, ash, etc) and rarely larger than 24" dbh. I only cut wood for myself to heat with...

    New model stihl prices

I'm wanting a big saw and am trying to decide if I should wait for the new model or to get one now before prices increase.

    New model stihl prices

Does anyone know if the prices of the new ms362, 461, and 661 will be the same as this year saws or higher and if so, how much higher? Also, where can I find the info on the differences and upgrades? Thanks.

    Why buy a 660 before 2010?

Does anyone know if the 661 will come with a price increase and if so how much?
