More wood ID's - this is a strange one

I agree with openloop I think "A" is what we call around here pin cherry or fire cherry. I have seen the sap from silver maples turn purple.

Where can I buy a good pair of loppers?

Thanks for the responses. I haven't seen one, but in catalogs the Power Gear design that Fiskars has looks good.

Where can I buy a good pair of loppers?

I see Bailey’s sells Corona brand, is anyone using these? I need a heavy duty lopper, I use mine to cut roots when digging ditches and for pruning fruit trees. The ones I have are old and I’m afraid the wooden handles are gonna give out. Appreciate any suggestions.

Spiral Acacia: As a rule of thumb, I think it's easier to use the log button on your calculator, like greengoblin suggests.

    DESIGN FLAW on __________ chainsaw

Fail I guess I didn't have my tongue far enough into my cheek. :monkey: My failed attempt to express disgust with people calling different design features "flaws" because they don't like them or understand them. (I think Gary "got it") ;) Hey - they're all good, buy and use the one...

    DESIGN FLAW on __________ chainsaw

I own one each of every brand of saw currently manufactured. The manual for one of these saws says “With the choke all the way out, pull cord 2-4 times, and then with choke ½ way out, pull to start”. Is this a design flaw? Why don’t they all make their saws so they start on one pull of...

    Got poison ivy again

jewelweed You've probably seen it. It grows in damp areas, and often in the same areas as poison ivy. Light green plant with hollow stalks full of juice, sometimes purple at the nodes where the leaves attach to the stalk.

    Milled some apple today

Milled with my Ripsaw band mill, powered by 044 Stihl, from apple trees which had fallen over in an old orchard I am working in. (I posted last fall about reclaiming an orchard). I have been using the Oregon sharpener (it’s like a dremel with stones) on the bandsaw blade with good results...

Oregon Sure Sharp 12 volt portable Chainsaw Sharpener

Wasn’t sure if I should post this here or in the sawmill forum. I ordered a blade sharpener for my Ripsaw bandsaw mill, and it turned out to be a 12 volt chainsaw sharpener. I haven’t tried it yet on the bandsaw blades. The Ripsaw manual says to put the stone into each gullet at 90° to the...

Need new chain for 345 Husky

My chain is reaching end of life from sharpening. I’m not a pro, I use the saw for felling and limbing small to medium sized trees, clearing windfalls, and harvesting wood to build rustic furniture, mostly hardwood. The bar is marked 18” - .325” - .050”. Should I order chain from...
