    Love The Log Arch

Sorry it has taken so long to post a follow up, dial up at home isn't worth connecting to and the net at work has bee real quirky. Anyways, Zogger, we hauled a 18" by about 20 foot beech log the other day wihtout any problems. That log and one of the maple logs (aprox 28" by 8 foot but kinda...

    Love The Log Arch

Spliter pics As promised some pics of the splitter repower. I bought this of a neighbor of my folks about 20 years ago, at that time it was probably 15 or more years old. Obviously its a home-built, not fancy but does the job. I don't have any specifics on the pump other than it is a Cessna...

    Love The Log Arch

We finally got to try out the new log arch a couple weekends ago. It works great! Since I took these pics a few weeks ago our log pile has grown with more maple, oak, birch, and a nice beech. Now that the splitter is up and running again, with the new Harbor Freight motor, (pics to come) we...

Keith, Hey man sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to you and Buck, I know exactly what you are going through, I have burried two myself in the past few years. I hope you don't mind I copied the Rainbow Bridge poem and have it hanging in my locker. There is another one out there about a...

    Need Help Mice

Better mouser than the cat My boarder collie/blue heeler cross will out mouse either one of the cats. She hates the little bastards. I've seen her flip a 4x4 pallet to get to them. Yesteday she tried to overturn a railroad tie along the garden trying to get to some. The only problem is she...

    Who is still burning

Update on decree Well. I knew it. Tuesday night I had to work but the wife didn't, got home Wednesday morning to smoke coming from the chimney. I knew April 30th wouldn't be the end. It got up to 60 today with plenty of sunshine so she let it go out. Just looked at the 7 day forcast and it...

    Need opinions on log arch

We opted out on the pontoons! Should have looked at the forcast first, 2 more inches in the next two days. The section of woods we are going to be working isn't too bad, Saturday it was actually not a swamp. The area we cut last year was down an old railroad bed and washed out during last...

    Need opinions on log arch

Got it! Well we picked up our new log arch yesterday...now just need some dry weather to try it out! It looks extremely well built, my only concern is the size of the cable on the hoist, might be a little small. Saturday my step-son and I cleaned up what is going to be our new...

    Need opinions on log arch

I'm not too concerned with braking, the part of the property we'd be cutiing on this year is not very steep. First gear on either tractor should be ok. We are considering the arch vs trailer to cut down on the amount of trips back and forth with the tractors and reduce handling of rounds. The...

    Need opinions on log arch

My step-son recently heard about a guy at work who is making log arches for about a third of the price that Bailey's and others are selling them for. Searched the threads for info on log arches and really didn't find anything negative about them, but of course the wife's first question was is...

    Who is still burning

Decree has been made While getting ready for work tonight the wife informed me: no more fires after April 30, we are done. We shall see. The first night that it drops below 62 in the house she'll be lighting one.

    Who is still burning

Haven't lit the furnace in the basement in a couple weeks, but will probably have to in the next day or so due to all the rain making it a little damp down there. The woodstove in the living room is another matter, the wife has kept that going non-stop. The couple warm days we did have just...

kindling got the best of me today! ;(

I worked EMS for almost 20 years before working as an RN, so I blew my back out a couple of times, always doing something stupid. Anyways, the physical terrorist seemed to do the most good for me. Eight weeks of torture and I was able to return to work. If the offer you therapy, take it.

    Does your Wife help out?

Hell yeah Hell yeah my wife helps out and I love her all the more for it:heart:. She is in charge of splitting; her and my step-daughter-in-law run the spitter, sort by size, and divide the loads between our's and my step-son's trucks. After the wood is home she helps stack it outside, I...

New Regs for outdoor boilers in NY, certain counties

What's next How long until our wonderful state cracks down on indoor burners? Pretty soon we won't be able to stay warm because wood will be banned and gas/oil/propane will be too expensive.

    House temp vs outside temps

When we got home Monday morning after being at work for 13 hours it was -2 outside and 59 inside. The wife stocked up her Avalon stove in the living room and I lit the EnergyKing furnace in the basement. By the time dogs/horses/chickens/cats all fed (about 1 1/2 hours) it was up to 81 in the...

Can't believe that I got suckered into this...

Jealous? Hell yeah! Dad has been gone for going on six years, we weren't always real close but the last few years he was with us we had become pretty tight. We always talked of restoring his '73 Opel GT but never got to it. Enjoy your Dad while you can. Oh yeah, why is it that trees just love...

    Labonville Boots

Love 'em Bought a pair this spring and so far I absolutely love them. As far as sizing goes they seem to run a little big. Other than that really comfortable, well made boots.
