King Crimson Norway compatability with nearby black walnut?

Thanks. Pics won't do much good until it leaves out. It's really unremarkable except that each year (for the past 3) more and more upper branches fail to bear leaves - usually big branches and they seem to die all the way back to the trunk. Regarding Silvers, in my younger years I used to...

King Crimson Norway compatability with nearby black walnut?

Thanks for the responses Nothing has changed, except I allowed a walnut to grow nearby about 10 years ago. The crimson is mature and is maybe 30 inches DBH. Another crinson of similar age is unaffected and stands 80 feet away from the Walnut. If its root girdle, it's too late to do...

Autumn Blaze Maple - bark damage by mice and/or vols

I don't think there is anything you can do. It sometimes kills a sapling or stunts it's growth and it recovers - but is set back a number of years. If it's an important tree to your landscape, you should plan on replacing it - maybe in the fall so you can assess how it's doing over the...

    I'm a Baby Killing Monster

Magpies When I was younger, A farmer walked up to me and pleaded that I don't shoot the wildlife. I told him the gun in my hand was only for magpies, to which he replied - Forget what I just said, get as many as you can. I though I was going to be kicked off his land, and instead I received...

Young Maple variety hasn't yet leafed

Do a search on root girdle - there's alot of info. Root girdled trees fail to thrive and can die slowly (>10 yrs). If it happens you will kick yourself as it can be avoided in most cases. It's similar to 'root bound' in indoors plants, except the tree slowly chokes itself and doesn't send...

What to do about cavity on large Maple?

If it's a silver I would guess it's about 30 yrs old. Also from the pic it appears that it had black sealer on it in the past. If it were mine I would plant another young tree with the expectation that your silver could be gone in 10 yrs time - but you have to plan carefully as space appears...

Young Maple variety hasn't yet leafed

I agree that it is not a young autumn blaze, and it does look to be an ash. I have clay soil and have to go to extraordinary lengths to keep from having root girdle - especially with container trees whose roots are starting to circle already. In order to avoid root girdle, I have found...

Advice for buying a saw off of Trading post

I use a 24 on my 372 - I think that is a good max length for the saw. Any longer and the thing would be nose heavy

    Remove paint and rust ?

Rust: eagle 1 mag etching cleaner. It's acidic and has a bit of HF in it. Spray on, wash off 30 seconds later. Available @ auto stores. or submerse in 25%white vinigar/water overnight. Works like a charm on traps.

Black Walnut - bugs and rot

Remove as much of the punky dead wood - to help it close over - while taking care not to touch live wood or bark. I can't give you advice on insecticides, other than I wouldn't bother. Also I would ignore the posters making snarky remarks.
