    A novel way to employment.

I have a few guys in my phone like you and I've seen this everytime......guys see my outside climber coming in and no one says hi to him, then they see them at work and kinda do that silent nod....makes all the difference in the world if you are talented and hard working.

Where has your money been best spent on advertising in the past few years?

I'm not going to throw out a dollar figure, but we (3 of us) do very well. I know I have done enough advertising when there's not enough time in the day to finish the incoming jobs. Believe it or not, craigslist has been excellent. I get A LOT of stump grinding jobs through craigslist.

    Taking the plunge

Well, are you still working for "the man"? My only suggestion and warning, based on your initial post, is that you better not go from being an employee to self-employed if your motivating factor is schedule flexibility ("working evening and 7 days a week is getting old"). I personally...

looking for idea's for blog/new website

My experience with blogs is that it's a tough marketing tool. If the intention for your blog is to create business (make money), I think you have much better ways to spend your time. If the intention for your blog is to just have some fun and/or educate the general "world wide web"...

how to organize files? book keeping

I would suggest QuickBooks. For $250 it will do anything you could need times 1000. Or, if you already have Microsoft Excel you could use it. That's what I used for my first two years and it was fine. It's also a very powerful tool in manipulating data.

Where has your money been best spent on advertising in the past few years?

I am in the yellowpages and three local newspapers. Beyond that I use craigslist once in a while and have done some mailers (not purchased).

    Ethics or loyalty?

When you work for someone else you gotta do what you gotta do, or else. This is a great example of why I went from employee to employer.

Good Friend Paralyzed - benefit scheduled

Just wanted to post here about a friend of mine, Chris Niles, who was paralyzed waste down while felling a tree on his property. It's not my place to analyze the story, but I hear he was in his back yard felling a tree all alone and for some reason the tree ended up pinned on him. His...
