Anybody got any good ideas how to bring back the color of a tank/handle? Sanding and clearcoat works fine on the orange parts, but here? Appreciate any thoughts/advise. Thanks.

    Crankcase repair

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 066 and plan to powder coat the crankcase. As expected, the case has some corrosion (pitting) that I want to smooth out first (have to post some pictures later). Anyhow, does anyone have first hand experience with either Thermobond 3 or Lab Metal (don't think...

Will this Hand Guard fit a 066?

Not familar with this part#: 1122 792 9103. IPL search produced a 064 Rescue as the closest thing: 1122 792 9105 I need one for a regular 066 and was wondering if you guys know if this will fit. Thanks.

    Would you keep this piston?

Looking for opinions: Stihl 066, personal saw (might use it twice a year just to cut the big logs), 135psi compression, cylinder looks good. I have it apart already just for a cleaning and rubber replacement and wondering if I should just put some new rings on it, or a Meteor piston or just...

    Small Ultrasonic Cleaner on sale

Just wanted to share: the small US cleaner from HF is on sale right now for $22 if anyone is interested. Come to think of it, I might just buy one just for Carbs and use the bigger one for the other stuff.

    Meteor Piston to tall?

Anybody ever had a new piston bottom out on the crank so it won't turn over? Just tried to replace the piston of a 361 and found this problem. Took it of and measured the total height and it was 0.3mm taller than the original one. If the hole for the pin is a little bit low as well (hard to...

Quick question: Does this seal need to be pressed in further? Right now it is sitting flush with the top. Thanks.

Need help here: Anyone has any idea/suggestion how to fix a broken off 'engine housing nipple' that connects to the elbow connector of an oil pump on a MS290? Thanks.

Where does this crud come from?

Pulled the cylinder of this 034 due to low compression (cylinder not bad, will clean up, piston will be replaced). What I discovered underneath is pretty much a greasy mess: Is that what you get from running to rich of a mixture (note: it's all the way down in the case as well)? Just...

    Happy Fathers Day!

Not Chainsaw related (move it if you wish), but Happy Fathers Day to all of you Dads. Hope yours is going to be as good as mine: Just came home and found 2 greeting cards on the table: 1 from the little one with scratches/scribbles on it and another from the older stepchildren (first card in...

HELP please! Another 020 with no spark.

I've been trying forever to get this thing started. Apparently, this seems to be a common problem with this saw. Here are the details: -020 AVP -electronic ignition (0000 400 1306) installed in 99 -Bosch Trigger unit (per picture) -New spark plug -Checked the lead connection -Checked the...

    064 clutch side bearing ???

Am I wasting my time with this thing? Please take a look at the picture; bubbles on the outer ring of the bearing (blue circles). Put a mark on it (red circles) and rotated . Will a new bearing do the same? Is the crankcase "worn out"? Appreciate any input.

How long does it take to sand those plastic covers?

Giving that sanding and clearcoating a try. The covers of my 028 are pretty faded and even discolored (black). I have been using a 200 grit to sand out the little dents, but the black dicoloration is still present in most areas. Just wondering, do I have to send more? And how in the world do...

    Carb tuning question MS460

Need some input here on tuning the carb: -I started with the L and H 1 1/2 out and set the idle to 2700 -Was a little sluggish reving up, so L 1 1/4 readjust idle -Revved all the way up and adjusted the H to 13500 (with bar and chain, but not in wood) -slowed back down, re-set the idle a...

    Need some reassurance/pointers

Once again, fuel/air seems to be my biggest enemy: After rebuilding a MS460, I finally got her to start at standard settings (L and H 1 turn out). Lot's of smoke. L all the way in!!!, Idle all the way up!!!: Still a lot of smoke and won't idle. My thinking is it's running way to rich, so...

What $20 will get you at the Stihl dealer

Went to the dealer yesterday to get a chain tensioner. They appearantly had some year-end clearance where they wanted to get rid of inventory. Brand new case for $15 and some small stuff for another $5. Glad I went. :)

    MS460 tank vent ?

Is this vent valve broken/missing something (I think so, but would like to verify)? It doesn't look like in the IPL. Also, I can't find any reference to this little piece of foam sticking in there and therefore have to assume it's part of the valve. Pardon the picture...
