    traverse from tree to tree

Ahh, to be back... I haven't logged in to AS in a long, long time. Fun thread to read. Good stuff for sure. I love my yella grapple from NT, whether traversing from one tree to another or one side of a large tree to the other it's great. Had it since it first came out (I think the previous...

How high would you go for an AS buddy?

Wait, so you were SRTing? What were you using, I thought you gave me back my grigri? You might make a spikeless climber yet. (If you drop 20lbs off your saddle it gets easier....) :hmm3grin2orange:

    How many times

Well, it depends what you mean. I've been climbing countless times since I started a few years ago. I never got that shaky down low, but there are times even now when I'm high enough out at the tips where I can still get a bit nervous. Especially when the wind kicks up. My buddy still...

    Wear Gloves?

You need a "sometimes" option on your poll. I've started finding a few that are inexpensive, but fit well and let me operate all my biners, clips, etc fairly well. I'm wearing them more of the time now. but by no means all the time. But I usually take some up with me on the taller trees...

    New guy questions-MS460

Everyone has their opinion. I like the Stihl ES bars, although they ain't light. I prefer the Oregon chains, but a lot of people swear by Stihl there too. I leave a 25" with full comp on my 460 pretty much all the time. I generally cut hardwood. I thought about getting a bigger bar, but...

    Who wears chaps while climbing?

I'm guessing what he meant by "the clogger panels" were the kevlar parts off of whatever chaps he was sacrificing to sew some armor on his overalls.

Screwdriver question, one of life's unexplainable mysteries.

Actually, I have two drawers. One for phillips, one for slotted. (And there's even another for torx.) Each of 'em have a dozen or so from various sets over the years, and I can almost always find one of the right size. That doesn't mean my favorites are in there when I want 'em, but at least...

Newbie with a saw, need advice so I don't hurt myself

Yeah, let's see where this goes...

Newbie with a saw, need advice so I don't hurt myself

If you're familiar with Bailey's already, get yourself some chaps and a helmet with the ear muffs and face shield. Steel toed boots are good too. Make sure when you're moving around through the limbs you engage the brake on the saw, and don't release it and start to cut until you're...

    Sequoia, or Sequoia swing???

I know they're more popular with the rec climbing crowd (in fact they're by far the majority), but even Wesspur had a guy on the front two years ago wearing a New Tribe saddle. I eventually got one of those. Leg straps themselves are loose in the design, so they rarely ride up on you. Leg...

    I quit drinking beer

Haven't had a beer in .... let's see ... I think it was Wednesday. Right now I'm drinking a little Turkey 101 before dinner to see if I can't kill off this sore throat I feel coming on before it's fully incubated. We'll see if it works. Tomorrow I'll either be sick or I won't. If not, I've...

Maybe the saws need beer too?

If I remember my thermodynamics correctly, cold air is actually denser, but holds less moisture. So the saw should actually be running a bit richer in cold weather?

    Does Anybody Have This Book?

I recommend it unless you really, truly know it all. Has a lot of good stuff in there. Actually, I got this before Jeff's book (to fell a tree) and was seriously disappointed. If you liked Jeff's book, this one will take you to the next level.

    Rubber Dipped Gloves in Bulk

Got some at the depot at 10 for $10. They're my new favorite. Seem to hold up, grip fairly well, lots of dexterity. I'm gonna go back and buy a whole pile just to stock up. (With my luck they'll get the next batch in and they'll be garbage.)

    "permission to trespass"

I haven't been doing this for that long, but I've already had my share of run-ins with unhappy neighbors. Never thought of a form, not sure if many would sign it. I verify that if anyone is home, and if so I make sure they know what I'm doing and have permission in necessary to walk through...

    My highest climb ever

I was thinking more Empire Strikes Back, but then again... That is a very sweet pic. I'm definitely jealous.

New Climbing Saw from Tree Sling'r

Yeah, well....glad I'm in the present then. That saw felt fine up in the tree, but I'll admit the guys on the ground pulled it up to me and I didn't have to use it up there all day. Really, I was just doing it for fun. Swinging around one of those old big saws would have just about done me in...

    Who wears chaps while climbing?

Speaking of 660...posted this down in the chainsaw forum. But here it is again. Edit: Well ****! I can't get it to embed again. This will have to do.
