Dead EAB's under treated ash tree - good sign or bad?

Good! The only good EAB is a dead EAB.

Dead EAB's under treated ash tree - good sign or bad?

I am a homeowner who has done a lot of research on treating for EAB. I own my own ArborJet system, and last Thursday I treated my ash trees with TreeAge (second application at 2-year mark). Yesterday, my daughter noticed dozens of dead EAB's on the trampoline under one of the trees. Did the...

What is the latest in the season that ash can be treated for EAB?

Is it too late in the season to inject a tree with emamectin benzoate (TreeAge) for prevention against EAB? We have been having regular heavy rainfall lately, so I doubt if uptake would be a big issue, but wondering if the tree will have a chance to adequately distribute the chemical to the...

Multitrunk ash treated with TreeAge - one trunk no leaf out

Update - sorry, don't have any pictures, but tree looks a lot better now. It did push out more leaves, both from tips, but also some new sprouts along the branches. Fortunately mother nature is doing a good job keeping it watered for me, at least for now. I will continue to monitor it and...

Multitrunk ash treated with TreeAge - one trunk no leaf out

The thing that is strange is that it's mainly that one stem. I don't recall any issues with applying the TreeAge, and all 4 stems received the same dose.

Multitrunk ash treated with TreeAge - one trunk no leaf out

Hmmm, interesting that you mention herbicide. We did apply a granular "weed & feed" product earlier in the spring - but it was a crabgrass pre-emergent, not a broadleaf herbicide. I did find that we were accidentally applying higher than the recommended rate on part of the yard, but then...

Multitrunk ash treated with TreeAge - one trunk no leaf out

I had several ash trees injected with emamectin benzoate (TreeAge) via the ArborJet system last summer. All of the trees leafed out well this spring, with the exception of one large multi-trunk ash. This one leafed out well on 3 of the 4 trunks, but the 4th one budded out with the usual pollen...

How to repel yellow bellied sap suckers?

They work quite well if you are a good shot. :) Just aim and squeeze the trigger - and make sure the local wildlife warden doesn't find out!

Just bought a new house, I found EAB, what to do with ash trees?

Can't see where it would hurt to leave the saplings be to see what happens, but highly unlikely that one generation of ash trees could develop resistance to EAB. What might happen is that after all the untreated trees in the landscape are dead and the food source goes away the EAB population...

How to repel yellow bellied sap suckers?

Um, pellet gun? I had one of those little snots do a number on my vibernum last year.

    The best fix

Looks like ArborPlugs in one of the trunks - what were they injected with / for?

Trunk injection for multi-stemmed Ash - question...

Well, I tried injecting the individual trunks on the back side, and did not get very good uptake at all. I guess it is just too far up to get a good draw. I left the needles in for about 2 hours, and hardly got any uptake at all. Probably less than half the product was taken up. I finally...

Trunk injection for multi-stemmed Ash - question...

The biggest issue with injecting on the inside of the individual trunks may be getting the drill and hammer in there to install the ArborPlugs. Not much room to work a drill or swing a hammer.

Trunk injection for multi-stemmed Ash - question...

Hi ATH! I did my big (25") single stemmed ash behind the house yesterday, and it went as smooth as butter. Uptake was awesome, as we had a nice soaking rain the night before. I started on the multi-stemmed one this morning but only got 8 of the 20 plugs installed and injected. I did keep...

Just bought a new house, I found EAB, what to do with ash trees?

I have a lot of ash trees on my property, but the EAB has not been around nearly as long here, so I have some that are still worth saving. I agree that the trees shown in your pictures appear to be too far gone to invest the money to treat them. The general consensus I have read is that if...

Trunk injection for multi-stemmed Ash - question...

Hey ATH, not sure if you saw my earlier reply. We are getting a nice heavy rain tonight, so tomorrow morning should be perfect to inject my trees. If I don't hear back, I am thinking I should inject as low as possible around the outside of the main trunk, and then maybe add some additional...

    About 18" from the ground.

Trunk injection for multi-stemmed Ash - question...

I have a large multi-stemmed (total of four) ash that I will be treating with Arbor-Jet and Tree-Age. Each individual trunk is about 12" DBH. My question - do I attempt to inject the full circumference of each trunk, or only inject around the circumference of the main trunk below the level of...

    Injecting Tree-age; quickjet or tree-IV?

Is there any difference in rate of uptake with the smaller plugs? If not, then logic would seem to indicate that the smaller plugs would be the way to go to minimize the size of the wounds.

    Injecting Tree-age; quickjet or tree-IV?

Another quick question: Looks like I have to buy the Arborplugs in quantities of 100, at least for the yellow (small) ones. Can you just use the black ones for both smaller and larger trees? I realize it creates a slightly larger wound, but it sure would simplify things. I probably won't...
