    Backyard Locust

I don't visit this site often anymore and this kind of dribble is part of the reason. I find it kinda sad that this bs fest has taken place over such a timespan. Funny and sad that some dude from the internet you never met is on your mind so much. lol Ghetto and fat jokes is what it has come...

Don't let your guard down for a single minute!

Glad everything turned out ok. As a residential tree man I put a rope in about 99% of the trees I fall. Wedges as a back-up in case something goes awry. This isn't to say that I have not put down a good number of trees with wedges only right along side houses because I have but the situation...

Looking for some tips for my 346xp

I tune my 346, which is non-limited fwiw, in the cut. Same way I tune limited saws. Crank it out so it is pig rich and cut 346 sized wood with it, and gradually lean it out until it cleans up in the cut. My saws clean up when you put some pressure on them. Either by dogging in or just using...

    TriTech Cut-Resistant Flipline Lanyards

Maybe tape and add a few drops of superglue like a lot of us do to beeline ends.

Is an MS 200T really THAT much better than an 019T?

I would rather be hog tied and forced to listen to Justin Bieber for a weekend than run an 019T. The choice between dodging cars on the freeway and working on an 019T is a tough one as well. That being said, keep your 200T. If you put spikes on and climb then you owe it to yourself to use a...

what is a normal price for stump grinding?

Its cheap compared to the hassle of doing it yourself. With one stump that size you will probably get it done on the cheap. Most guys have a minimum charge. In my area 100-150 bucks is pretty common for a minimum charge to come out. Some people charge by the inch measured at the root flare...

    Allgear Husky rigging line

Good line IMO. Jacket seems a little looser than Stable-Braid to me but I have a 9/16 line and it is a nice rope. I will be buying more.

    Webbing sling vs. Whoopie

OP this is what I meant when I mentioned not being able to keep your sling tight to the cut.

    Webbing sling vs. Whoopie

For blocking down you are not going to be able to get it tight to the cut. Dead eye slings and whoopies, etc., are cheap and designed for the work we do. In some applications that sling should work fine however.

in other news, 201T's still suck balls.

Take Brad up for sure. I thought I was going to hate the 201 but after opening up the muffler and retuning it, it became a totally different saw. Great throttle response and up on power. I didn't tweak the timing either. Like most of the new design saws they take a bunch of takes to break in...

    Ms660

I run full-chisel mostly. Skip, full-comp, doesn't much matter with that saw and bar IMO. Stihl semi-chisel is a great chain for dirty conditions. I use it for flushing stumps pre-grind. It is, as Madhatte mentions, a great all around chain. Any kind of full-chisel is a pita to get back in...

    Trango cinch

I used one for awhile. Nice unit but it was not as smooth to me as a hitch. I also used 11mm static rope and while it flipped ok I switched back to 1/2in. KMIII with a hitch. I like the feel of the larger rope in my hands. It is a nice unit when it comes to pitch, etc. I attached it to my...

    steering trees while felling

I hear ya. I am a tree guy and not a faller. I also like to think that I am a good faller. I don't fall enough whole trees to get really good practice with these specific cuts. If I have to steer a tree I am using rigging. Or if in doubt about a fall, climbing. IMO these cuts are best left...

    Humbling experience yesterday

Its nice to finish some cuts like that with your handsaw too. It lets you get your chainsaw stowed away and get yourself braced well. Depends on the size top however but when I am hanging a conifer top it is probably not going to be a huge top.

    200t

Great saw! I have two now and can sell off my not so beloved 192. I gave my 192 to a friend of mine who has been running 200's since they came out and he asked me if there was anything wrong with it. LOL What an anemic pos.

    best saw for climbing

201T is a good saw for sure. Modify the muffler and pull that ridiculous limiter on the high side screw and it is a new saw. Like all the newer saws it takes a bunch of tanks to see a good change.

Lowering with steel carabiner and Munter hitch?

Munter works ok. Gets hot very quick. Another option I often use is to leave a stub where I think I will be rigging from and take wraps on that. This lets you wrap off enough to hold the piece then un-wrap and lower.

Looking for input/advise on pole saws. I am looking to purchase.

The HT101 and HT131 are great saws. Even the diehard Husky guys I have worked for all ran Stihl powerpruners. They are both great units.

    What brand of saw

Depends on who and how well trained your ground crew is IMO. If they are not knuckleheads get any of the saws you mentioned. I lean towards Husky anymore. If they are not so saw/tree work savvy I would get something cheap like a Rancher or Farmboss. I know a lot of the ground guys that work...
