    Loaner saws

I don't loan out my saws or any other power equipment for that matter. Only exception to the rule is my Dad and brothers. My youngest brother fell into some sort of a love affair with my 346XP. It seems to migrate between the garage and the shed at will. Heck, I can never find it when I actually...

    A couple muffler modded Stihls.

I'll turn it down next week. I've been to busy working and the weather is miserable here. I pulled the muffler off and the piston and cylinder were fine. I was a little paranoid I guess.

    A couple muffler modded Stihls.

Finally got to cut some today after work with my 390 that I did a muff mod on. It's running right around 14,200 and the improvement over stock is pretty substantial I think. It seems to be cutting really well where it's at so think I'll leave it. Also took the 440 along to finish noodling up...

    Pennsylvania guys..Get in here!

Hmm seems there are enough of us to maybe figure something out. To be honest I don't have a good place or enough extra wood lying around to host a GTG. I was thinking something a little more laid back but am up for about anything. I work every weekend as well so that makes it tough. I would have...

    Klotz racing oil for chainsaw?

I'm running Maxima 927 which is a castor based oil. What's the difference between it and the K2? The castor smells nice and has been working well for me.

    Pennsylvania guys..Get in here!

Any of you guys from the central PA area? Specifically around the Altoona area. I'm about 10 miles from there. I don't know any other chainsaw nuts around here and it would be nice to get together with a few if anyone is up for it!

Where do you get your chains from?

I get RSC chain at the dealer. Recently my dealer has fallen ill and is not open. I've ordered some Oregon LGX from Treestuff.com, a sponsor here, and also from Edge and Engine

    Muffler Modding Stihl 390.

I'll let you know my findings next week. Have to go to my real job so I can afford this CAD stuff. If anything I'll enlarge the center hole just a hair with a carbide burr in a die grinder and take a little more off the deflector, richen to 14,000 and see what happens.

So I'm curious, what do you guys do for a living?

    26. Started out working at a full service gas station/garage when I was 17. Stayed there nearly 7 years. Took a job at a factory that manufactured roof bolts for the mining industry and absolutely hated it. Now I am back to turning wrenches professionally. I don't mind the work but the hours can...

    Muffler Modding Stihl 390.

Thanks for that little math problem there. Math was never my strong point. So basically I should just let it alone with what I did? I used the drill press and cross slide vise for drilling. Worked pretty slick. I didn't bother to lay it out. I drilled the 4 holes first and then the center one...

    Muffler Modding Stihl 390.

Went ahead and did the muffler mod on my saw this afternoon. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the center of the indented area and 4 1/4 inch holes, one in each corner. I also opened the deflector a bit. While I had the muffler off I looked at my piston and everything was great. I'm running a castor...

    Keeping saws prisine aka OCD

This thread turned out to be pretty interesting! The "once" new 440 has alot more wood to put on the pile yet this season. A few more of those scars are going to happen for sure.

Cords per Chain - How many?

I cut a mix of both green and seasoned wood. All of it hardwoods. I use chisel chain. Stihl RSC on the Stihls and Oregon 20LPX on the 346XP. Placed an order for some 72LGX but it's not here yet. As far as how many cords I never really figured it out. I have about 4 chains for each saw and when...

    Buying a new saw........can't decide

I'll go with what Oscar said. I'd like to have a 660 or 395 at some point myself. Where in PA are you boys located?

    Muffler Modding Stihl 390.

Spend most of the evening reading and looking at mods done here. Seems a fair amount of them use one large hole followed by 3-4 smaller ones in the rectangular area. Some are using a 3/8 and 3/16combo while others use a 1/2 and 1/4 inch. Some completely open the indented area. I may start with...

    Keeping saws prisine aka OCD

I can appreciate the wisdom within your words. I just can't seem to help it sometimes. It's to cold here yet to get the motorcycle out. I can't wait though.

    Gas cans!

Some of the new cans work better than others. Not that any of them are good for say. I've had better luck with cans made by Blitz. You still have to push the end back but I seem to be able to fill a saw without spilling any. I did fill the splitter up today with a 5 gal. can my Dad had and it...

Man that really stinks about that Homelite. Can you get what you need to fix her?

    Muffler Modding Stihl 390.

The limiters are long gone off the carbs. I am fine with tuning it by ear. I got a tach last year for giggles and to help me really know whats going on. Are there any pictures floating around here on the mod? I searched but couldn't find any. I need to order a rim sprocket as well. The stock...

    Keeping saws prisine aka OCD

Maybe it's just me but I hate it when a nice new saw gets her first character marks. Enter the Stihl 440. I found a brand new one sitting on a dealers shelf 2 years ago and bought it. The first thing I did was put a DP cover on, tune and go cut wood. Right off the bat the 2 sheet metal screws...
