    Black locust

They make great fenceposts, cut them 8' long and split the big ones lengthwise or use the small ones themselves. I could show you posts in the ground that are 50+ years old in the ground and still strong.

    What is your daily PPE?

Steel toe boots, Stihl 9 ply chaps, safety glasses, ear plugs, forestry helmet if I'm in the woods and a 9mm Springfield! Amazing where sawdust and chips can get into a pistol and mag.

    MS261CM 16 vs 18 inch bar

I've run 16", 18" and 20" bars with .325 chain, both full and semi-chisel, and while it pulled them all well I found the 18" to offer the best in balance, power and efficiency for the wood that I cut. I currently run an 18" 3/8 pitch semi chisel chain and hope I don't have a reason to go back to...

    Wood ID help??? Black Locust??

You are correct. I've heard my dad and old timers around here call the big thorny ******** black locust for so long its natural response to call them that. I cut the heck out of black locust for fireweood and leave that honey locust alone, I don't even like going near them with tractors. I saw...

What do you do with your wood....

I do alot of woodworking: The first is a countertop in the works for a new house being built, the Oak came off her grandmothers farm that I cut back in '09. The Walnut came from my place the same year. There are actually two countertops as it is going on a split level kitchen island, I just...

    Wood ID help??? Black Locust??

All the Locust I've cut was very yellow, however I tend to stay away from Black Locust and those 6" thorns so it may be different.

What was the first chainsaw you ran?

The first saw I ran was my dads Poulan 3400 counter vibe with an 18" bar. I made a lot of money through high school selling firewood, in college I bought myself a Stihl 029 Super when a big storm came through that I again made a lot of money selling firewood. My buddies just couldn't understand...

    My wood hauler

The D21 is massive. I drove one for a short spurt just to get a feel for it, if anything it definitely looks powerful Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Looking for new saw??

I used to have an 029 Super, it was a good saw. I bought a Stihl MS 261 a few years ago and had no desire to touch the 029 again. If you want a tad more power a 261 is great and is lighter, if you want a lot more power a 361 or 362 would fit the bill. The 261 can use the same bar and chain as...

    My wood hauler

It is a nice one. I'll have to post some pictures of the D14 and the D17. The D14 almost got put into action today but dad decided to hitch that trailer to his truck. The D17 hadn't been used in a while, might just have to get it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And hauled a load out in my Ranger this morning. Didn't take a picture of that one it looked about like the first photo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My wood hauler

. Brought this one out of the field today, all Locust, with three times that laying nearby and another load like that of Hickory split up down in the woods. All dad and I did today was split, let me rephrase that I manhandled chunks of wood and he operated a lever on the tractor. Sent from my...

    My wood hauler

I've never seen a D12 but I've seen a D10, it was tiny. I've actually driven all of the D series except a 12 now that I think about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My wood hauler

That one is my dads 1965 Allis Chalmers D15 Series II. It doesn't get firewood duty if it has to get dirty or a risk of a scratch. He has a D14 for that Here is my tractor, no loader on it right now because I had it off to do some work on the fuel system and haven't put it back on. We use it for...

    My wood hauler

I cut my firewood on the farm, usually not too far from my shop. Sometimes I'll use my tractor and a trailer, my truck and a small trailer and my dad does about the same. But this is my favorite, doesn't take a long time to load it and easy to unload. Usually not moving it more than a half...

    Firewood

I have a guy who I have sold Pecan too in the past who I could get $200 out of it pretty easy. He uses it for smoking meat, swears by it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stihl dealer, Rural King????

Rural King in Murphysboro, IL sells Stihl however less than 10 miles away in Carbondale, IL the Rural King is not a Stihl dealer. I don't know why but I would imagine the three other Stihl Dealers raised 10 types of hell about it (two are professional lawn/landscape shops while the other is a...
