What happens when you throw a chain

Had one flip off and cut into my pants once, luckilly they were the double thick type and the chain didn't get through to my skin. Left a nice reminder hole in the pants to remind me to wear my chaps. Otherwise just a nuisance when it happens because you have to put your chain back on and refile...

    Stihl 031 carb adjust help

Took another crack at adjusting that saw today. Was looking around at the clutch bell housing to see if there was any indication of it rubbing anywhere. I found some suspicious rub marks on the inside of the housing and also on the inside of the main cover. Was able to get an IPL and...

    Stihl 031 carb adjust help

All right, I'll check the bearing tomorrow. What your saying makes sense though. Now if I can get the rpms below 2k and the chain still spins would that lead towards a bad clutch bearing as well? As Pioneerguy said, weak clutch springs wouln't engage the clutch untill above 2500 rpms.

    Stihl 031 carb adjust help

Idle rpm's 16 to 2k. Intresting you would suggest clutch springs. I've been hearing a "pinging" rattle that i've suspected to be the clutch.

    Stihl 031 carb adjust help

Stihl 031, been trying to get the carb adjusted but i cant get the rpms low enough to stop the chain from spinning without killing the motor. it starts fine and high speed adjusts to 12k no problem. Been trying to balance the low speed and idle screws but I can't get it right. Or, could there...

    fast-tach ?

These types of tachs are not attatched to the saw while tuning. They are held next to the spark plug and pick up the rpm's wirelessly.

    041 AV questions

Sounds like your idle speed is set to high. Back it off until the chain stops spinning at idle but not so far as the saw dies. Also, take the bar cover off and check to make sure the chain tightener pawl is engaged in the bar groove.

i got a question about a low profile chain

If your chain is missing teeth it's ready for the garbage. The size your using is common and wont be hard to replace. Try Bailey's - ( my second plug for Bailey's tonight :givebeer: )
