How much sense does this make?

Not hard to spill that much. Guy I am subbing for blew a 6 wire main hydro line. Caught it right away and lost 50 gallons. If any slower he could have lost alot more. It is a 500 gallon tank.

    pine lot

Pine pulp is pathetic right now. Last I checked it was around 19.50 a ton. Trucking will be at least 12 a ton.

The only thing removing the dead branch's will do is improve visability. It wont add value to your trees.

    Wedge stacking techniques?

Better than stacking wedges is to cut several cookies from your surroundings. What I do is I have one wedge in then put cookie in kerf put wedge in over it. You can make the cookies thin or thick depending how much lift you need.

    Felling Wedges

Instead of an axe when tree sits back, you can use tip of bar (unless pinched) to go in just enough to start wedge.

Big trucks take big gulps of fuel

Oh yea forgot original post. Go with a diesel. Most efficent diesel in my opinion is the Cummins motor. Cat make a great motor, lots of power. But Cat is thirsty. Example: I have 2 skidders a Cat 518 #21,000 and a Timberjack 380 with grapple and winch #32,000 Jack has 6 cylinder Cummins. The cat...

Big trucks take big gulps of fuel

Home heating oil #2 fuel offroad fuel are all the same. It differs from on road not with cetane rating but sulfer. Offroad has a higher sulfer count than on road. The lower the sulfer rating the less lubricity. The more they take the sulfer out the more they need to add additives. The new fuels...

What is pine going for these days?

Pine is not worth harvesting right now. If you can avoid cutting now I would. Dont know exact prices for logs. But the pulp you can expect 17.50 a ton. Just not worth it. Let it grow till markets come back.

    Advice on felling some pines...

The holding wood the wedge is suppose to break is just that holding wood. Not hinge, holding wood. It is in the back of tree away from hinge. Also called a backstrap.

Huskee 22 ton 6.5 HP log splitter

More horse power. 22 tons is fine. But it is the horse power that is giving you that force. 6.5 hp just isn't enough imo.

    timber wolf splitters????????

Log lift is standard. They say it aint but it is, it is put on all of them. Also the 25 ton rating is actually rated low on purpose. I will also take a Honda motor over all others. TW5 all the way. I bought the 6 way and log grate to. Now all I need is a conveyer.

How to get into a logging career?

How to get into a logging career?

Alot of mills buy standing timber. Then either hire a contract logger to go in and cut skid or send there own crews out. I dont know of any schools per say. But there are courses you could take like game of logging. You might want to get ahold of the Ohio loggers assc. They might put on classes...
