    New (to me) Stihl 036

I didn't need it given I already have a 361, but curiosity got the better of me. It's a non-pro, no decomp version with adjustable oiler and was advertised as "good strong saw, you won't be disappointed ". Boy was that ever true, this thing kills! With a 16" bar and full chisel RSC chain this...

    Buy MS261C or keep MS361

Or I just drag out the MS461! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Buy MS261C or keep MS361

I have a recent M-tronic 261C that is fun and easy to use. It's pretty much taken over duties that my little homeowner 211 used to perform, and a whole lot more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Buy MS261C or keep MS361

I must have caught the tail end. Mine is from '09 if my memory serves me right. Seems like yesterday.

    Buy MS261C or keep MS361

A 361 is now considered an older saw? I'm now feeling older myself! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Buy MS261C or keep MS361

I'm in similar position. I have a seven year old MS361 which was my first "big" saw. I've since bought a MS461 and MS261C-M. Wondering whether I really need to keep the 361. But it's a good back up to the 461. Summary position - if I was limited to one saw the 361 would do me OK, even...

Stihl 261 vs. Husky 550 XP

Jeffkrib I'm pretty sure my 261 is up to the moment, was purchased around Nov '16. I'll keep my eye on the XP filter issue. Thanks for the tip.

Treeswinger was your 261 one of the newer M-tronics?

Stihl 261 vs. Husky 550 XP

Reviving a zombie thread here. Greetings from the land down under (Australia). The topic is quite relevant to me. First let me state I'm a firewood/property maintenance guy, not a professional arborist or forestry person by any stretch. But I do what I do and have managed to accumulate a...

    Makita/Dolmar Australia...

Yeah but......what about this Makita DCS500/45 for AUD $649? Or should I just go the Husky 346xp on ebay for about the same price, new in box, posted to Oz?

    Makita/Dolmar Australia...

...bastard child? ...so to you Aussies, how does a DCS500/45 sound for $649? Or is it too risky given the attitude of the local Makita crowd? My local Mitre 10 has one on special for that price, and it looks like a quality piece of kit. Value wise it would seem that eats the pants off an...

    Difficult start of 361-not flooded?

Yes, just forget the decomp valve is there and you will have fewer problems, from my experience anyway. I have to say I prefer the old-style conventional choke on my 032 Super anyway, similar to the cars I learnt to drive in. Judicious use of a choke lever makes starting a breeze.

Sounds like mine last time I used it. Pig of a thing to start sometimes...

    Smaller companion to MS361?

Well, I don't quite see it that way, but I may stand corrected and I defer to greater wisdom from others on that aspect (is there ever agreement around these parts? ;)). As to research/diligence on this model, there were enough positive comments about the 032 AV (around here and other...

    Smaller companion to MS361?

032 av So I need to be worried, divine intervention required to get it to work properly?:dizzy:

    Smaller companion to MS361?

Well just to update (and this may sound like it came from left field), but I got a deal on a used 032 AV with a 16" bar, so for now that's going to be the "smaller" backup saw to my MS361 with the 20" bar. I don't get to see it until tomorrow, but the price was right and so assuming the ebay...

    Smaller companion to MS361?

026/ms260 There are times when the 361 is just a bit much, so I like the idea of a pro saw like the 026/260 as a backup/companion to the 361, especially if can find one used at a reasonable price on ebay etc. Any smaller than that and they are in the homeowner class which would be fine for...

    Smaller companion to MS361?

Dolmar? Mmm, other Aussies here may chime in and correct me here, but AFAIK Dolmar doesn't have much of a presence down under. So I think it's Stihl or Husky for now. Might start by looking at this 211 then. Oh, and you've probably heard it ad nauseum, but all the good stuff here is...

    Smaller companion to MS361?

OK, let's get the formalities out of the way first. Hi there, and this is my first post, but have to admit to have been lurking for a while. I am definitely in the category of "enthusiast amateur" or whatever you want to call it, but really appreciate the comments of the pros here, which...
