    Minnesota Weather

SW MN outside of Windom...NE wind staked it up against the garage very well. Garage door was held down so I had to hand shovel. Good thing we don't get a NE wind often here.

    Splitting/Chopping Tool Review Thread

Not to hijack the thread, but I just did a quick search on the Fiskars site...this looks pretty nice, 36" 8 lb http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Gardening-and-Yard-Care/Axes-and-Mauls/IsoCore-8-lb-Maul-36

Finally... It's That Time of Year Again

Splitting a few chunks while listening to the corn stalk leaves rustle in the wind here in SW MN...harvest will commence shortly. 80 degrees and a new batch of flies, but still fun.

Looking for a NEW Fireplace Insert.

I've had the i3100 for two years, and my experience is very similar to yours, about four cords of ash/mulberry/locust/old crappy dry starter stuff. Used about 400 gallons of LP. I recommend Regency as well, but David will need to see what is available close to him. From what I've read on the...

Wood stove insert draft problems - what a pain!

Sorry to hear about your problems. My daughter had a napoleon installed in her house, two story in a corner. The installers were qualified (they did mine too), and argued that the stack was tall enough. But they had enough down draft problems - like you - that that didn't want to use it. So...

    Flexible Chimney Sweeping Systems?

Gardus...I got this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010H5JXA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Comes with six three foot rods. I ordered an additional two. Works well, just cut the lines to fit your chimney size as directed.

    bio brick

I haven't tried Bio Bricks but I did buy a few Gren Heat bricks last spring. I find they work very well. This summer they were on sale for I think $4 a bundle of 20 bricks at Menards, totaling 38 lbs per bundle. From what I remember based on the cost of propane around here and efficiency of...

Walnut log - firewood or ??

All bought. Decorators of course, non-functional, ranging in price from $150 to $450 each. They still hang on my living room wall. Til the wife makes me take'em down. Sorry, I don't mean to derail this thread. Have a good weekend all

Walnut log - firewood or ??

Yes...my son next to me in the back was holding Excalibur. My daughters were holding Sting and Glamdring from LOTR. I was holding the sword of the apocalypse riders. The good old days...now they are all grown up and gone.

Walnut log - firewood or ??

Black walnut did make a nice backdrop for my family's 2003 Christmas picture (not your average kids in front of the Christmas tree...). Burned a grove full that year. Seriously, if you know a local craftsman who also mills and processes lumber, you may be in luck. But I'm thinking most...

    Are you still burning

Same here, in Windom MN a few hours south of you. Will be splitting after work tonight, down to my last few cords. Will probably burn thru Fri-Sat. Heating season from hell indeed

Ok guys, who burnt the most thread!

Great! I hope the price doesn't go up if demand increases. Then again, folks probably won't buy them if they get more expensive. But they are bug-free, compact, and convenient. Looks like lows in the 30s all week here in SW Minnesota. Wife asked me last night if I was running the splitter...

Ok guys, who burnt the most thread!

For fun I picked up a few bundles (20 bricks totaling 38 lbs @ $4.99 per bundle) of GREN pressed sawdust bricks. They actually burned pretty well in my Regency i3100 insert. I plan on buying a few dozen more bundles in the off season for backup - maybe I can get a lower price in bulk (Menard's...

    Soft Insulating or Hard Firebrick?

I need to replace some broken bricks in my Regency i3100 insert. I'm a bit confused, should I buy soft insulating firebrick (which supposedly absorb little heat) or the hard ones (structural?)? Or doesn't a fireplace "care" which type is used?
