Thank you all for your thoughts and words of support, their value to me is far greater than I can really express.

    End of the trail

Some of you may remember that over the years I've posted how we have have changed our wood collecting to accommodate Sharon's progressing dementia. Last night she passed away, peacefully and quietly in bed beside me. I miss her terribly, but am happy her time of torment is over. Sharon...

The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat

I think most of what is sold as pressure treated these days is just dipped, there is no pressure driving the preservative in. Last week I cut some new PT for a project and the penetration was less than 1/16" in many places.

There is nothing more disheartening than to have a newly stacked pile collapse, you have my full sympathy.

Firewood Sellers tool of the future...

You don't really know how many saw your sign and just kept walking. If you're happy with the level of your sales there is no point in changing, but if you are interested in growing your sales accepting various forms of payment can help. Our daughter had a market stall and started taking credit...

tips for starting small firewood buisness

I think you'll do alright, you sound fair, sensible and willing to work - that's really all it takes to get a start. Be honest and be on time, if you screw up a delivery or something apologise and go out of your way to make it right, your reputation and your word is just as valuable as your...

The walk of a 1000 cords.

I remember there was some talk of creating buffer zones against EAB by dropping all the ash for a certain distance around infected zones to prevent/slow the spread. If this is one of those zones the wood couldn't be transported for firewood due to EAB quarantine restrictions. Whatever the...

Hints, tips and tricks for noobs and geezers

And its not just hung over that you have to look out for. The police around here have started setting up breathalyzer road checks in the mornings as some guys drink heavy enough the night before that they are still blow over the limit the next day. Be careful out there, you might not be as alert...

New Member here, possible firewood problem !

No problem burning it, lots of wood develops some mold as it seasons. If you store a lot of it inside the house it may bother someone with mold allergies, but bringing in a days supply at a time should be no problem..

He's (or she's?) about 4" long. Goes by the fancy name of "Spotted Salamander". I've never tried using salamanders as bait, but the colouring should be attractive.

    Winter after next

It was our first nice afternoon in awhile and I had some spare time so I started collecting some small piles I'd split over the winter and began the stack for the winter of 2014-15. Found this little guy under one of the trailside piles - he was not impressed that I was moving his house!

As I see it, you're ending up with some firewood, an 8N and time in the bush with your boy - ya look at it that way and its not a bad deal at all

    Produce firewood using sawmill

I can buck and split a log a whole lot faster than it would take me to load it on a mill, cut it and roll it four times, move and stack the slabs and the cant then cut them to length with a chain saw.

    A future woodcutter

I just received a family update from one of our daughters, and her description of our just turned 5 grandson brought a smile to my face! "Yesterday he took a spotting scope out into the woods to go adventuring. He took his hatchet as well. Just in case. When he returned flush faced and...
