Anybody modded an 036 for hi-flo air filter?

I have the max air flo system for my 066, and i know they make them for the 044/046's, but has anybody made one for an 036? I would like a better, higher flow filter than the stock filter. Any ideas?

    Air Filters?

Depends on the saw. On my 066, I wash the foam pre-filter out in gasoline, and re-oil it. The inner element i blow out with compressed air. It has lasted for years, and looks new. The flocked filters i separate in half, and spray them from the inside out with Brakekleen. The Tri-Chlor in...

Are you stashing a few saws while you can??

The future is allways a little uncertain. I think I have accumulated enough parts saws to last me a lifetime but...everytime i see a box of parts at a flee market or traders fair, and they are orange and white......I stihl have to pick them up!

I am back, after a seasons absence

Hey there Russ, good to see your still around here! I dont have near the cutting to do this winter as i did last year. I have a lot of maintenance cutting to do. Lost of trees hanging over the fence lines, and then there are some saplings trying to grow in the fencrow i cleared last...

I am back, after a seasons absence

Well, this isnt too much chainsaw related, but, this is the only forum i post in, so i gues its relevant. I have been away for the summer, as i am only a seasonal user! This weekend i need to tune up the 036, sharpen it, and cut down a few ash trees for the bbq....Long story there..was...

    very old crosscut saw pic

Really, this probably belongs in the off-topic forum, but there are a ton of other threads related anyway, so i thought this is a good place. If you all have read some of the Art Martin threads, and seen the pictures, there are several old cross cut saws shown. Like this one, Its at a...

    sharpening carbide chain

Daniel, I can not offer any advice on sharpening. But, I have wondered about these chains for a while. What do you think of them? Did they hold up pretty well in your opinion? What have you ran into with them, fence and such? Sorry to ask questions instead of give an answer...

    the deal with the 056

The pieces missing on inside the flywheel, on the tapered bore. When they sheered the woodruff key, part of the keyway was torn, or broken out of the center of the flywheel. Other that than, there is only 1 fin missing. Thnaks, Matt

    the deal with the 056

Yes, its the SEM ignition. Looks like the flywheel is pretty well shot. When whoever sheared the woodruff key, it took a couple pretty good chunks out of the flywheel. Parts are starting to add up on this one!

    Carb. adjustment

046, Changing the cyl base gasket from the .031 thk paper to the manilla paper makes a small, but i think noticible change in compression. Plus, thats a good mod to make if you are changing cylinder/piston anyway. I have heard of people polishing both mating surfaces, and using a...

    the deal with the 056

Thanks for the info! I will check the flywheel tonight. I think it is one piece, but i will double check. A dual port muffler would be pretty cool on this old saw.

    Carb. adjustment

True Russ, I should have put a discplaimer on my first post. Yes it would a little scary for a newbie to tune it this way, leading to a very expensive lesson. On the bright side...that would be one more saw i could pick up from the dealer needing a rebuild! I need to work on the wording...

    the deal with the 056

I checked out that 056 saw I picked up saturday morning. It does have pretty good compression. The muffler is shot. I am not sure what somebody did to it, but it is smashed, and has chisel marks all over it. It even had a 3" long drywall screw holding part of it together...whatever works i...

    Carb. adjustment

Why would i want to lower the rakers, or sharpen the chain???It is cutting like a mad...throwing chips a mile! I really dont think its possible for it to cut much faster. It is ported/polished, and muffler modded. It took me a few years to get the sharpening down, but i have it. Thanks...
