    Hack and Slash Saw Mods!

Russ, the short answer is no, possibly respected posters shouldn't be spouting off bad ideas but then again to reference gypos latest thread to which I believe you infer, he raises the exhaust 1mm and clips the piston by 2mm. I don't think that is going to kill his saw. Without having the saw...

    Hack and Slash Saw Mods!

Russ if one dumba$$ follows another down the path to ruined saws whose fault was it? Do those who follow posses no responsibility for their own action? Besides everyone must start somewhere and anyone who picks up a porting tool is going to ruin some stuff at first. But the smart ones will...

Flywheels with cast in key - how to repair sheared key?

Right on Walrus. The nut and taper is what holds the flywheel. The key is only for timing purposes.

How do I make a large volume chainsaw pipe

If you want an expansion chamber then no it's not easy. There's quite a bit of calculating and figuring before you even begin fabrication which can be tedious. Some here have built more pipes that others and I'm sure they'd get it done faster than myself. John

    Stihl MS440 Mag or Husq??

I like the 046 or 460 for a 28" bar. But in stock form they aren't all that fast going through hardwood. A fully modded or even just muffler modded 046 does nicely. John

    Idle ?

sounds like an air leak. did you change the crank seals? Or perhaps a bad impulse hose. Keep checking you'll find the problem. John

Just go for it. Use good quality two stroke oil at 32:1, keep the air filter clean and chain sharp. Keep the saw properly tuned and happy cutting. John

Hey Mike, what kind of wood is it? I was hoping to sneak in a piece of balsa for my turn, you know so I'd look fast and all.

    Placerville Logging Competition

No fair. If meatloaf gets the spare room can I at least have the couch or camp in the backyard? What size wood will we be cutting? Do you need help with anything like setting up?

Echo CS-3450 Chainsaw Sprocket Removal Method

Hi there. I just repaired a cs 510(can't remember) for a friend. I needed a special tool/socket made for echo saws. One side is 19mm hex and the other is a three pronged type affair that turns your clutch. I think Baileys sells these tools. Good luck.

    Stihl MS460 Dual Port Muffler

Why not poke a hole it it yourself? I kinda think the run pretty well just by opening the existing outlet. We can help! John

    359/357xp

weimdog, I don't know for sure since I haven't seen the homelites of which you speak but yes I think that's what they call open transfers. I was just curious how they figured into the sceme of things. John

    Stihl 051 clutch nut problem.

oops forgot, Many hardware store carry shouldered nuts with serations on the inside of the shoulder. That would be another option. Good luck, John

    Stihl 051 clutch nut problem.

Was there no lockwasher or wave type washer? You may need to stop the piston with a piece of rope and put some real torque to it........

stihl 031 crank gasket backordered!!! Does any one have one

Uh I guess this is too late but in the future why not make one? If done properly, home made will work great! John

    359/357xp

Dan, by cutting out the "loop" and making them open transfers does it change the power band at all? Do you gain top end and lose some midrange grunt? Thanks, John

    Aspiring Square Filers

So Frank when you convert do you use a round grinder to shorten the tooth then a chisel file to convert? I have converted by just using the chisel file and that seems to wear them out real quick. What's this goofy file that people talk about?

    Ams Oil Goo

Klick, you say the skirt showed wear. Is it possible this saw was run on straight gas and when the operator realized it, he dumped some atf down the spark plug hole in attempt to mitigate the damage? My guess anyway. John

    stihl 046 help

Ouch..... this might cost a bit more than you'd originally hoped since you now need a crankshaft assembly and the labor involved. Are you mechanically inclined? Is the cylinder ok or is it shot too? John
