    Another tree ID

It would be hard to find a boxelder (junk maple) with a main trunk that high. Most sucker so fast that the main trunk never really develops.

    Another tree ID

Emerald Ash Borer Yes, here is an article I had written that will help you diagnosing this and other trees in the vicinity... http://www.arboristsite.com/attachments/chainsaw/154873d1287698316-emerald-ash-borer-pdf I hope it sheds some light on the subject. Feel free to ask for any...

    Dolmar 152 ignition module

Mo, Are you still in need of an ignition for the 152? I have a couple used that have good spark...possibly even a NOS... Let me know, I realize this thread is a year old, but like you say, they are hard to come by. Regards, Josh

    Cherry tree fungus amungus

It looks from the picture that it is confined to the one branch. Easiest thing would be to prune it out. Was that branch in decline last year? You could try brushing it with warm soapy water and then rinsing with the hose, then spray it with a good fungicide. Thin the canopy a little to...

    First Year Stihl Lightning ???

Thanks, I did however find that it is sporting a Bing carburetor. It is quite unique. There is no throttle butterfly. Instead, there is a solid metal drum with a hole machined cross-way the size of the carb's throat. When you open the throttle, the drum rotates. At WOT there is no...

    First Year Stihl Lightning ???

Thanks 7Oaks. I finally had a couple minutes to actually look the saw over. It really is fascinating. The other thread talks about the hood, or bonnet, being sand cast. The entire saw is full of sand mold imperfections, and hand grinder marks much like is on all the old mufflers. The...

    First Year Stihl Lightning ???

I had to leave, other plans. But it does have a Fairbanks Morse starter, and the carb is WAY different than my other. I think ( from what I've read, it is the original Bing carb... Of which I know nothing about.

    First Year Stihl Lightning ???

Yes, it is indeed a runner. I have an extra HL Tillotson carb kit (May be HD...going off memory) that should fit it. I have only started it. It needs carb work.. I hope to get a little elbow grease on it in the next few days. Eventually it will be restored. It is a good day!

    First Year Stihl Lightning ???

Hey guys, This is my latest barn find...minus a squirt with the hose, this is how it came. Metal red hood. Fairbanks Morse starter that looks like it is stock. Different muffler. 5 digit motor number. Gold, coarse paint. Someone has put some other rattle-can over the top. This is a lot...

    What insurance...and how much?

I have been a horseshoer for going on 10 years now, a business that I am in the process of phasing out (turns out you get old fast!). It's pretty analogous to what we are talking about here. But I don't think it matters what business you are in, there are plenty of guys that are out there making...

It's great to see this thread go in this direction! The info provided is worth a lot to new guys like myself. You've already helped a couple guys (probably more) save money and headaches. Thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge.

    What insurance...and how much?

Thanks for the advice guys. I now have a list of points to consider- no doubt the tip of the iceberg. At least I am pointed in the right direction now!
