    Permatex Motoseal

I used it on my makita bb kit two years ago and it's held up through at least 50 tanks so far with .026 squish and 180psi compression. On second thought it might have been .023 squish I can't remember but it runs like an angry bear either way.

    Help help help Please

I agree going through the ceiling with the ceiling kit is the best and cheapest way. When I bought my first house in 92 all it had was electric baseboard heat and our first bill in November was over $300.00. I promptly looked through the classifieds and found an older stove and 15' of double...

Untreated Rail Road Ties..Cutting and Burning?

Do you know what kind wood they're made from, I've heard maple but the ones I've seen look more like a fir.

split my ash or keep it round

its too bad you couldn't cull it all and get it off the ground and under cover before it rots. it must be nice having an almost endless supply of seasoned ash waiting for you though.

split my ash or keep it round

Nice, what kind of stove do you have and do you burn rounds like that during the day or mostly overnight?

split my ash or keep it round

I see your in Michigan, I'm in Windsor and you know the condition of our ash since the EAB came through our area, I got these in a small bush about 5 minutes from the ambassador bridge. I know what you're saying about the punky ash I got some like that last week, it was still solid but the...

split my ash or keep it round

LOL, no problem I'll split it with you. Just have UPS send over a prepaid shipping crate for that stack in the picture, should only set you back a few hundred to ship it to Sacramento.

split my ash or keep it round

I just got a nice little 1/2 cord score on some eab killed fallen ash trees. I've always split any round over 4" or so just for seasoning purpose, but with this ash I tested a couple of the 10" to12" rounds and they are 12 to 14% already. My question is is there any reason to split the...

im real glad i need new chaps

Just to add to this, I've found that all saws are not equal when it comes to the brake. Most saws I've used it takes a pretty good kick back to set it off but on my makita the slightest sign of kick back and the brake comes on instantaneously. Which is a good thing on a saw with this much power...

    Elm variety ID?

I just got some dead elm today, it was leaning off the ground with the bark falling of when you touch it. The smaller branches were reading 12 to 14% and the 8" and larger rounds were 22 to 26%. I don't need the wood this year but from those of you who are familiar with dead elm will the larger...

    Ontario GTG?

I'm in Windsor so I'd be more likely to go to a SE Michigan gtg unless we met somewhere in the middle of us. Great idea though, off topic a bit but I have a question for you. All of our ash have been dead for five years or more but I went to London last month and they had lots of healthy ash...

    Husquarna 455 @ lowes

Forget the 455 and check out all the HD rental centers in your area for a makita 6401 or 6421. I just seen a 6421 for $250.00 last week at the HD @ 75 and 12mile Rd in Southern Michigan. They are beasts and the cheapest pro saw you can find.

    Home made chimney brush ??

I just use whatever stray cat I can find and lower him down with a rope, lol. Not really, I use a 6" polly chimney brush with three 1/2" x 5' fiberglass chimney poles. The whole shebang cost under $40.00 8 years ago. I just want to add. That I had the steel brush first but it gets hung up...

    noodling basics

Great idea I never thought of cutting or bringing a cookie to protect my chain.

    noodling basics

Great tips except for the last paragraph for me. If I can lift a round onto another round there's no need for me to Noodle it, I lift it into the trailer. I've found most big rounds almost fall apart when I get an inch or two from the ground just from their own weight.

    Day of deals

Great score man, you're going to love that saw. I used mine for a month before I put the 85cc bb kit on mine and it was a strong saw but I had some money in my PayPal account so I bought the bb kit and it really woke it up. It really is fun to run its got so much power it's almost ridiculous.

    Y'all convinced me

Good move, I never needed them either till I took 7 stitches to the knee last year now I won't run the saw without them on.

    noodling basics

I do it to save my back, I get all my wood from scrounging and the bigger the better. I have a big bore kit on my Home Depot rental and it noodles almost as fast as it cross cuts. To the op I suggest you get the biggest saw you can afford and keep your chain sharp and your back and...
