    things that annoy climbers

You always know its gonna be fun when you show up for the bid and you ring the door bell and half a dozen poodles go bizerk, mean while the home owner is having trouble un locking the door. You know you got a seniors discount coming when it takes the home owner 5 minutes to unlock the door.

how does one reduce a conifer

What type of conifer are we talking about here? When I worked for Asplundh on a mountain crew clearing the distrabution lines we would spike up and top everything under the line. Almost every Engelman or blue spruce looked natural from the ground, but when I got to the tops I could see where...

    rope

I have never had any problems with Stable Braid, and I have been using it for years. One thing about it is that the cover will tend to stretch and the core will not. An easy solution is to cut about an inch off of one end and milk the cover down the length of your rope, cutting off the excess...

    boom lifts or bucket truck

I have rented a Genie lift for a few jobs. Its a handy little machine. Extremely versital and mobile. I can get a Genie in the back yards where we would never be able to take the bucket truck. I especially like the telescoping boom and the jib boom. For me its a little bit easier to control...

    things that annoy climbers

I have come up with a good solution to having dog poop in the yard. Im gonna start carrying a pitching wedge in the truck and when ever I show up to a job site that is full of land mines I will just practice my golf swing on the little piles.Hitting the house is a birdie, the car is an eagle...

Tree of Heaven (or is that Hell)

Thats some pretty funky trunk growth. I have seen that type of growth in Siberian Elms. That would be a pretty cool lookin tree once ya get it trimmed up. I really dont mind working in Alanthis, I dont think they smell all that bad. The one thing I hate is that it is really soft and brittle...

    Light insurance?

Talk to your insurance guy and try to get a one time binder. Its a whole hell of a lot cheaper than an anuall policy. The one time binder basically states that You are covered if you should damage property, but the property covered will only be on the prescribed job site. This meaning...

    Start my Own Tree Service

If your gonna be a Bear, be a Grizzly Bear. Not a panda bear, or a koala bear.Take heed and learn from the pros. Ambition is good, but ya gotta learn from the guys that came before you. My advice would be to hire on with a reputable tree service and hone your skills. Kenn

    Four Corners

Your gonna find that there isnt really all that money. There may be a few high rollers, but the magority of the home owners are gonna be Indian/Mexican and dont really care what thier trees look like. (not that there a lot of trees there in the first place) I have worked in Farmington NM and...

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I sub for a guy every now and again who uses vegtable oil in his saws. There have been a couple of times when I filled up my saw and put some of his veggie oil in my tank. Im not sure what the long term harm or benefit would be, I just know it makes my saw smell like french fries. Kenn

    Rope question

I use the duckt tape and soldiering iron trick. After I make my cuts I use a heat gun to melt the duct tape around the end of the rope. This keeps the duct tape from unwrapping later on down the road. Kenn

Now the hacks are attacking people and trees

So let me get this straight. In Canada if some armed burgler is breaking into your house your ownly legal option is to grab your wife and children and try to escape? Thats kinda messed up. What if you had a Rottweiler that mauled said burgler in your house? Would you get arrested for assault...

If ya wanna go super secure go with a marl then a round turn and a running bowline. Ye ole running bowline is what I use. And like Rocky I have never had one slip. Just make sure you leave 4-6" of tail. I did have a water not come out of some webbing once because I didnt leave enough tail...
