which way does the arrow point new piston

None of these rules works every time. (Ain't that just the way?) For example, I have in my hot little hands a new piston for a TS760, and it is marked with an arrow that points toward the ring gaps. The old piston I took out of the same saw was marked the same way. BUT I also have here a used...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Speaking of which -- and I'm not trying to hijack the Pioneer sticky -- I think that this year my "dynamic duo" will be the 3071 for felling and rough work, and one of the sweetest li'l saws I've ever put hands on for branching and trimming -- a 1970s vintage Echo CS-315 early model, the one...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Thank the Good Lord! I was beginning to be a bit cluster-flustered! :msp_thumbsup: I like the saw. If you scroll back a page or two, I posted about how I got it, one of the luckiest deals I ever scored on Craigslist. I've just never been a fan of the newer saws with their anti-vibration...

    Pioneer chainsaws

OK, we'll try it your way. First of all, when I right click on the PB image I want, it does not even appear, much less enlarge, but I do get a drop-down menu, in which I can locate an option "copy URL." I did that. Now, on the next line, I will attempt to insert the image as you have...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Here is what I put in my earlier (edited) post. This is exactly how it is right now: IMG]http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g463/tbone0106/Pioneer3071002_zps1d698725.jpg[/IMG IMG]http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g463/tbone0106/Pioneer3071001_zps335b5134.jpg[/IMG (As you did with your...

    Pioneer chainsaws

I've done this before on other sites without a lot of trouble. My first posts simply used the "insert image" button in the reply box. I later revised it to separate the two images. BOTH WAYS, I was able to see the photos just fine by clicking on either image name. This last time, I uploaded the...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Pioneer 3071 Ah, the bucking claw came in the mail yesterday, and fit perfectly. Here are a couple shots of me little beauty, taken after we went out and cut a few dinner plates. As you can see, mine has the semi-wrap front handle, which I VERY much prefer over the full wrap. (No disrespect...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Nice saw! I've got one just like it, but in better shape. Take a look at Mike Acres' listing for the late-model 3071, and you can see a few pics of my saw. The 3071 is indeed an oddball. It was Pioneer's first model with electronic ignition, for one thing. Mine, like yours, is the late model...

    Skip the muffler all together

ZOWIE!!! Serious reference material! Mega-thanks! Still, I look at Ol' Blue, my 1960-something XL-12, and wonder how that little vented-stack "muffler" could actually be doing anything at all beyond protecting the cylinder and the piston from whatever debris might come their way. For sure...

    Homelite Heaven

Beautiful big saw!!! Makes me tired just looking at it! I'd have been tickled sh*tless to get the two XL's. A free-breathing metal-cased 60cc saw with an 18" bar and a razor-sharp chain is enough for a good man to work with. I can have your 36" tree falling before you're finished...

    older homelite parts

Um, offhand, I'd say your saw is an XL. The correct sprocket/drum for it is Homelite P/N A95653A. It's readily available all over the place. Ebay is a good place to look.

Just picked up a Clean Homelite Super XL Automatic

Nice old SXL! Just hooked up with a guy over in Columbus who has two of them to sell. I'll be heading that way soon. Don't know if it'll make a difference, but your fuel cap is definitely not original. If your cap is vented, you should be okay, but if it's not, vacuum in the fuel tank may...

    Echo CS-315 clutch cover help

Damn nice work, Bob! :msp_w00t: Oddly enough, I'm dredging up this old thread because I find myself in need of a clutch cover for a CS-315. I recently bought a lot of ten saws from a guy in Columbus, and one of them is a SWEET li'l 315 powerhead, but it's missing the clutch cover (one-hole...
