    Ice Fishing holes with chainsaw

I recall a couple years ago on here someone picked up a used 090 that had been used only to cut Sturgeon spearing holes since being bought new. Needless to say, it was pristine.

    Wedges

If you're ordering from Bailey's, I'd go with K&H Redheads. Middle of the road price and a classic tool of "real" loggers (though probably just as many use whatever house brand is cheapest). I would consider buying a couple 10" and maybe a 12" along with some 8". I don't usually order 5" as...

bar saw head for a big skid steer

The Barko in that video is a rebadged Bobcat 1080, which itself was a forestry version of the giant Bobcat 980 skid steer. I bet that machine could handle an honest 16" tree with a bunching head. Not many others probably could though. Bobcat also made the six wheeled 1213 feller buncher in the...

    Tricycle type log skidder?

Those were fairly popular for a time here in the upper Midwest. Gafner, Valmet, Franklin, Tree Farmer, and Barko (there may have been more) all sold three wheelers. Either Tree Farmer or Franklin had a five wheel version as well. Most has shears or chainsaw heads, but there were a few with...

    Brand Pronounciations???

Three syllables is correct for Husqvarna (husk-varn-nah). That's the way they themselves pronounce it in their TV and radio commercials.

    2 cycle mixes

Wow, I never would have believed it. Makes some sense for the construction industry though, in order to prevent straight gassing- lots of hired help that don't know or care what they are doing. They need to offer this on trimmers and blowers as well. Landscapers are in a similar situation.

5,000 lbs of Oak and a nice State Trooper.

Hmm, I've never heard of any cops caring about weight or load securement on any non- commercial vehicle around here. Apparently it happens elsewhere.

    Husky, johny red split

That seems highly unlikely. Jred has no manufacturing facilities, no designs of their own, and brand recognition that is marginal at best in most areas. Husky may well rid itself of Jred soon, but unfortunately it will likely be by discontinuing the brand.

Cable logging test run in Wisconsin

That's right down the road from me- interesting. Would make some work for hand fallers rather than all the damn processors around here too. Obviously I can't see every logger in the state with something like that, but there is probably room for some contractors specializing in hillside and...

    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Looking for service manual and IPL for a 028AV Electronic (1984ish vintage). Also if possible need the same for a Poulan 3400 Countervibe. TIA

    Best chainsaw grinder

Yeah, that's a Carlton branded Tecomec. I have the same one- it's a great deal IMO. That price is hardly more than what they usually want for a Chinese knockoff.

grinder versus file specifically for stihl RSC

If you're gentle with the grinder, the heat won't be too much of an issue. If you lay on the wheel and blue the cutters, that's another story. All in all, the advantages of a grinder far outweigh the drawbacks if you do any amount of cutting. The consistency and correct angles that a grinder...

What I like about the MAXX chain grinder

I'm not an expert, but I believe the big difference/advantage with the Maxx is that by being able to swing the head to either side, you can always grind into the tooth (no burr on the outside of the cutter). The only other way to achieve this is a reversible motor, as on the Silvey machines (a...

Advice for selling a saw with or without a bar and chain?

As a rule, I've been selling without a B&C lately. I had enough screwing around with trying to find a good way to ship a bar- it was a pain to package and drove up the shipping cost. I'll only include it now if I know it won't be too much trouble to ship (for example a top handle I recently sold...

    Deere partners up with Honda

So no more Deere branded push mowers I guess. They had a long history there- the other OPE in Deere colors (tillers, snow blowers, etc.) seemed to come and go depending on how they felt at the time.

    50cc saw question.

Did you swap out the green gas cap, or don't all JReds come with cats anymore? That would be the only drawback to a 2153 vs 346 to me- most 346s now don't have the cat. I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago. I was pretty sure I wanted a 261; I drove around to all the dealers in the area...

    Dolmar Chain Brake Sponge

What is the purpose of the "sponge" (item 156 on the attached) in the chain brake area on a 64/73/7900? All I can figure is it is supposed to absorb some bar oil to lube the chain brake parts? I had my 6401 apart, and it must have gotten lost somewhere along the way. I'm pretty sure it wasn't...

    3120 replacement?

I would imagine that they will keep at least one model bigger than the 390. While not a huge market, there will at the very least always be demand by tree service guys who need to run monster bars. It is quite possible that the 395 and 3120 could be combined into one saw though.

    Makita DCS6421

Grande Dog mentioned on the Bailey's board that this was coming. Also, he noted that they were looking into offering aftermarket mufflers for the Dolmar/Makita's (non-cat I would assume). That would be a good idea, as I have a feeling 6401 replacement mufflers are about to become very popular. I...

    Dolmar/Makita/Sachs-Dolmar

Dolmar & Makita are exactly the same- the same company, the same saws in different colors, with different distribution and dealership networks. As mentioned, Makita purchased Dolmar. Sachs was involved (partial or full ownership) in the 70's & 80's, hence the Sachs-Dolmar era.
