What neat trick, tip invention idea do you have to make things easy?

Bench vise for sharpening If you use a bench vise to hold your saw when sharpening, clamp the bar so the chainsaw is upside down and the nose is pointing towards you. The cutters will be facing the correct direction and you won't have to reach over the saw. It's a comfort thing.

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

not so far but that is something we thought about. You get pretty good air movement at 35 mph :hmm3grin2orange:

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

We've run it through several tanks and this past Saturday my buddy took it on a 20 mile ride and was left with 6 oz of fuel. After all the calculations for volume and conversions it gets 77 MPG and has a range of about 23 miles with the current fuel tank. Next modification is front brake...

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

functional but not done Ok here are some pictures/videos of the bike somewhat complete. We are looking for a set of disc brakes for it and we're going to make it a two speed. With the current gearing the top speed on flat ground is 35 mph (verified today on a test drive using my Delorme PN-60...

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

Next time I take pictures the gearing should be figured out and it should have some sort of pipe on it. I'll take some pictures that shows how the chain connects and post those too. For the test run there was no 'muffler' at all and the exhaust port was pointed straight up so it was really...

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

80mph was the theoretical wheel speed based on the gearing. 60cc doesn't have enough torque to getting going that fast on it's own. Maybe downhill with some assistance. I'm shooting for around 35mph as the top speed as that gearing should have decent power from a standstill also.

Stihl 08S mounted on a 1969 Schwinn Stingray

This is what happens when you store an 08S too close to the same vintage Schwinn Stingray. A buddy and I at work thought it would be a good way to use the saw since the oiler quit working and it's just too heavy of a saw for the amount of power it makes. We still need to fab the exhaust and work...

Quick Question for all of you Makita/ Dolmar Whizzes...

also, search for vids of bsnelling running a saw. A lot of times you will see him lift up on the saw mid-cut to check if the carb is set right. When he lifts up on the saw, it will burble. This isn't is as good as Brad's vids but here is a video of me running my PS-9010. At the beginning...

Quick Question for all of you Makita/ Dolmar Whizzes...

you have to tune it in the wood. with the engine warmed up, get the saw buried in the wood. The burble should go away when the engine is under load. Lift up on the saw slightly. If the burble comes back, it's set right. If no burble, richen it up a bit more.

    Rakers

What a butcher? Did he use a 9" Milwaukee grinder or a pedestal grinder to 'touch up' those rakers? I hope he threw in a new chain for you.

    064 noodles crooked

bar rails Check to make sure the bar rails are even. Easiest way is to set the bar on edge on a flat surface and check it with a square (check both sides of the bar). If the rails are uneven, the bar will lean to one side or the other. Non-parallel rails will definitely make it cut crooked...

    Thinking of Upgrading to DCS7901

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Where did you find the BB kit installation instructions on Baileys? I can't seem to locate them.

Finally bought my BIG saw--needs repairs

cutting straight now I realized that the bar rails weren't as true as I first thought so I filed them down. I also bought a new loop of Oregon LGX and the saw is now cutting straight. How much of a difference will I notice with a muffler mod on this saw?
