    Rope protector/cambium saver

Maybe I'm off base here, but I say go ahead and cheat. The thick rubber hose didn't work well for me, but it did work. If your only waiting a week you'll be fine. You might use up a little more tubing than you want but at least you are climbing. For me it was impossible to keep the tube on the...

    Rope protector/cambium saver

Sounds like what I was using for a while. It really works poorly. There were many problems, among many are: Lots of friction when the rope slides through - descending dDrt on a Blake's is horrible. Will not stay on the limb (in large part to the friction. Wear out VERY easily - after 2 climbs...

    SRT rope tie-off

What you are describing is called a munter/mule. Mule being the tie off knot and munter as a belay hitch. Keep in mind, I've used this set up and it works well, but only if you have enough rope. This set up is used as an extra safety measure, in case someone on rope has a problem you simply...

    Pine Tree Revisited, Night Climb

I had such a good time in that pine tree I decided to go back with a buddy. We didn't plan a night climb but we weren't able to make it earlier in the day, climbing at night turned out to be pretty cool. Rope management was MUCH smoother this climb, I kept it dangling as Moss does, and it worked...

    Pine Tree, 3 pitch climb

yesss, the foot lock concept still eludes me haha A question about rope management, are you carrying your entire rope up with you and keeping it in a bag of some sort? This seems to be the most logical way of management that I have come up with.

    Pine Tree, 3 pitch climb

I finally got out to try a multi pitch climb. The tree wasn't too tall, so I did short pitches in order to get a few in. I ran into some problems with rope management but started to get a hang of it towards the end. Due to many a suggestion I got my hands on a much thicker rope, 11mm is MUCH...

    Tree Climbing Video

Ya, I will definitely be investing in the gear. Harness pain never really gets to me, but the other day after being in the tree for a bit I came home to a bruised hamstring. As for the class, I wish I just went to school for canyoneering - that'd be great. You nailed it though, its an...

    Tree Climbing Video

Thanks for the link! There is some good info there. The golden rope is 8.3mm, the red 8mm. We like em skinny in canyoneering. They are also both very stiff. I realize they aren't ideal for tree climbing. I can foresee a tree line in my future.

    Sunset Willow Climb

I've found what I think to be a good route for a multi pitch on it I think I'll give it a try. Its still relatively low to the ground. Just wanted to make sure I know what I'm doing before getting too high.

    Sunset Willow Climb

So far I'm just a back yard climber. Still making sure I have things down pat. I've been look around to find a tree that would be good to practice a multi pitch climb close to the ground, but the search continue. Enjoying myself nonetheless!

    Thanksgiving Climb

Here are some pics from earlier in the day, the willow album was the evening of these pictures. I gave them a nice short start. My little cousin was happy with this height and didn't want to go much higher, while my other cousin really enjoyed it and asked for more. Something cool, he has...

    Sunset Willow Climb

I was thinking the same thing before rigging things up. I wondered how sturdy it would be but after some pretty good bounce tests it held strong. I wasn't going to put my sister up on it, but she had been waiting her turn for a little bit and when I told her I think we're rapping it up she...

    Sunset Willow Climb

Thanks! I'm glad you like them. I can always count on a sunset to make up for my lack of photographing skills. It was a very nice evening. There is now a good amount of snow on the ground here, I'm hoping to get some nice reflective colors on the next climb. I'm counting on some pics to come..

SRT RADS and Tree Frog demo

I'll definitely be keeping them in the bag of tricks. Here is one more way that works, in my opinion, much better than the 3 i previously showed. It is much more yoyo friendly, rappel is instant if needed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5cHFx4Lz38

SRT RADS and Tree Frog demo

Good points, I hadn't thought that over. Your level of experience is clearly shown here. After reading your post and some more testing I think my alternatives are best left as cool tricks, not a whole lot of practical application. Has been fun figuring it out though. I have really...

SRT RADS and Tree Frog demo

Here is a video showing it rigged up. In the video there are also two other techniques I've messed around with. One utilizing the Alpine clutch, the other a cinching munter (I'm not sure of the correct name). The madlock technique I have used in a tree, the other two I have only tried in my...

SRT RADS and Tree Frog demo

In this set up I have substituded the GRIGRI with a mad lock http://www.madrockclimbing.com/madlockbelaydevice.aspx in cinch mode. A petzl reverso or similiar in cinch mode can also be used. There is an extra step involved when you decide to decend, but it works alright. I only propose this as...

    Tree Climbing Video

I was able to make this video as extra credit for a climbing class in college here at Weber State. The techniques you'll see are a mix between canyoneering techniques and the blake's set up. (Blake's is much easier!! but not preferred in a canyon setting). The day was just great, and the trees...
