    East coast faller's

Playing in the cold man, hows things going down south? 100 to 105 on the landing. Its ok in big timber but if they have you cutting small timber the scale hurts.

    East coast faller's

Hey Roy, what's the name of your FIL's mill? I'm from gladwin and me and brother handcut all our timber. The average mill pay for our area is $100-105 per mbf on the doyle scale which is hard making a living working for that unless they keep you in stellar timber all the time. There is good hand...

Most of ours have the big heart like that, but we do get into some with small hearts.. It is prone to chairing here also. Its not a stringing wood so I think that helps it split down into the stump when swinging them. Most of our ash is eab killed or being killed now so the tops are brittle...

Nice pics bitz. I have had mixed results with swinging red oak. Most will go nicely but I will rip into the log on some. I chaired one over the winter, my bar tip got to far into the Dutchman side and pinched up. It let out a pop after a few seconds and chaired about 30ft up. The saw survived so...

    NEW 372 FAILURES

Hey CJ1 I am guessing the dealer you are talking about is in Falmouth. They are the largest dealer in the state and are top notch guys. For some members to assume they don't know what they are doing without having any knowledge of the dealership is absolute crap. I have had two 562's loose...

    Propane oil pan heater?

I use a Mr heater infra red propane heater to get the skidder going on sub zero mornings. Stick it against the oil pan for 30-40 minutes or so. Im sure there is a better way but it works good enough for me. Keep in mind that im only heating up a 5 cylinder deutz with it. I was thinking about...

    Sorting wood from multiple fallers

Yep, you got the handful of nickels right .... I started my day by getting pulled over for speeding, 66 in a 55 mph zone. Get to the job site and put the bear claws on the skidder and we see a county truck pass by and hit its brakes. They turned around and pulled in and start telling me that I...

    Sorting wood from multiple fallers

I agree with hammer, I'm guessing you would be scaling the logs in the separate piles not on the stump though(that's a PITA if they're random length)? You would have 2 piles for each cutter? pulp and logs? Seems like alot of messing around. I worked for weekly pay cutting before and it worked...

What you guys using for 2 stroke oil? -A fallers perspective-

We run Husqvarna low smoke. Buy it by the 6 pack of 12.8oz(5gal) mix for $30. I mix one bottle into 4 gallons of gas. Had some bearing problems on some of the new huskys when they came out with the plastic bearing cages(562 372xt).......I have run a ton of it threw my old school 372s,390 and 395...

The "Not So Pro" discussion thread...of course Pros are welcome!

After talking about load rejection I thought some of you would find this grading sheet interesting. This is from a job that im currently on producing mill bought timber. We are paid by the mbf. Logs have to be almost perfect or you get docked. I have not been required to goto any GOL classes...

Good enough on the bypass guys, I appreciate it. That and tire chains are on the list. Your correct it is a prentice grapple.. I agree bitz, hand bunching oak pulp sticks is a b####. If I can avoid it with a bypass it will be the best money I every spent. PM sent on the phone number.

Those are 24" bars I agree makes for more work but most of the timber is around 24". The biggest bar I own is 36" and wouldn't be worth putting on for the few biggens. Come on now! 16" were short barred over here but not that short, the 372 is at a angle facing away so the bar looks really...

They said the previous owner traded this in on a fab tech I believe. They had it since march.

Its a butt grapple, I'll have to save some coin and get a bypass. Nothing like picking up a hand full of pulp sticks that don't pinch tight and tumble out and you have to play pickup sticks. Its reassuring to hear that it boosted production, so i'll put it on the "must have list". It was about 4...

Thanks Tramp, It was listed for 22 and talked the dealer down to 16500. Changed a head gasket and a injector and runs like a champ. Haven't been able to burn more than 5 gals of fuel a day. I'm guessing with your terrain and timber out there forwarders are mighty rare?

Thanks the tree in the first pic had a pretty good lean so it was plunged and bored. It has 12 foot of veneer in it so I made sure there wasn't any pull. I have been getting the bars from Ahlborn equipment, 24" for $28. They said they were rebadged Windsor to forester pro. The box says made in...

    562xp in the shop

Early 562's had seal/bearing problems on the pto side. I had two saws grenade, got them replaced under warranty and have a ton of time on them with no major issues. Fun little saws. I also don't understand the "torn bearing" comment?
