    Opinions on dutchwest dw2500/century cw2500

Greetings all, I'm currently running a dutchwest dw2500 insert, and have had great luck with it for the last few years. The mrs and I just purchased a new home that has 2 fireplaces, so we'd like to get another stove. Should I stick with what we know, or venture out and see what's out...

EcoBricks - my small testing of them

I've used them before just to experiment... they do last 8-10 hours and do throw exceptional heat... however, they cost some serious $, considering I heat w/ wood to save on $3.50/gal heating oil. The bummer is that the brand we get here "BIOBricks" are made in my hometown (Berlin, CT)...

    Burning Softwood

The oak I cut around here (red and white) has a very distinctive, sweet, earthy smell when first cut. People that don't even burn know what it smells like. Simply smelling burning oak in the air is enough to make most people go off into a tangent about how that smell reminds them of childhood...

    Burning Softwood

i burn softwood regularly, w/o incident... I cleared out a 100' oak last fall that had fallen in a cluster of tulip trees (poplar to non new englanders). The main spar of the oak took down 3 separate board straight tulips with it, so figuring it would be a sin to leave that nasty softwood...

Check out the Star Wars indoor stove

while interesting as a conversation piece... from a heating/practicality standpoint, good luck heating anything other than an outhouse with that, and filling it with cook stove sized wood every 5 minutes. that thing would be cool parked out in the shop next to the real stove...i'd grab...

    Okay You Pallet Burners !

since the last load of wood I had split for this year was elm...and I didn't realize it burns ultra crappy unless seasoned for 2+years, I "ran" out of wood last week. Yeah I have almost all of next years split and stacked, but it's still too green, and I have almost 2 cords of this elm just...

Homemade bar oil . . . anyone make it?

I can't believe that after reading through 3 pages that nobody has chimed in w/ the fact that spraying used motor oil all over the woods is horrible for the environment. I'm no greeny, but USED motor oil has a lot of nasty stuff in it, chiefly from the unburnt and burnt gasoline byproducts in...

    First Holz Hausen

Other than for kicks, that seems like a lot of time to stack LESS THAN 1 CORD the wood does season a little quicker though...think 8-10 months vs a year for maple/oak/ash stacked normally, from my experience at least

so why exactly are ms200t's so expensive?

I understand what they are for and who would use them. I'm a firewood guy so I like big cc's and long bars. I'm no climber or pro-arborist. That being said, why is an ms200t so expensive? Couldn't you clime with say an ms170 or other light little saw? Is the quality of the 200 really that good?

    Free saw score!

Long story short, answered a clist ad saying the owner had a free "broken" saw. Said the chain came off the bar and that the bar was broken. I get there expecting a total pos, and instead stumble upon this: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200381954_200381954 Feeling bad I...

I wanna Muff Mod my 038 Super!!!!

This is what I suspected...it has the "waffle" style muffler on it... Compared to a new ms390, it's wide open. Sorry to waste the board's time

I wanna Muff Mod my 038 Super!!!!

Greetings all, from reading all the great posts about muffler mods here, I decided I want to give it a try. First things first, If I take off the stock muffler of my 038 super and open it up, will I need to get a new gasket to make a tight seal up against the head? I'm not sure if there's...

    How much burnt so far?

started sporadically to heat at night back around the first weekend of October. Now I start a fire every night when I get home, and load my insert (Dutchwest DW2500) before I go to bed and let it burn out as I don't have time to load it in the morning. I come home to 60-65 degrees every...

Heating w/ wood insert...anybody use BioBricks?

Greetings, I mainly heat my home w/ my wood stove fireplace insert (a Vermont Castings off-brand DutchWest dw2500) and its really efficient...ie it has secondary burn, is epa certified, has air control, etc... As the weather gets colder and colder here however, I'm finding that seeing that...

cost of 084 slug and jug?

Translation: I think I may have found an older 084 that may require a top end rebuild, amongst other things. That being said, does anybody know what a stihl piston and cylinder (or the equivilent) will cost? Thanks! :greenchainsaw:
