First Tree Job of the Year

He should have you cut that ailanthus down entirely. They're just weed trees and break easily. I won't even burn them.

    Stihl MS362 problems

This will not be any help with fixing the problem, but just need to vent... I also have a ms362 bought it new and am now on my third carb. I am beginning to think that this saw is a lemon. Last carb dealer said was a bad welsh plug, but only had that carb on it for maybe 10 months. Dealer tried...

    maple

I have a lot of locust that I split for next year, but I also have a lot of silver maple that the power company dropped clearing the lines. I've taken some and still need to cut more and get it split and stacked. It's right next to the house so easy to get. I know it's not the greatest but it...

Got a little bit done this morning (pics)

That's a nice lot of wood. Just saying today, wish I could get out in the woods if only the snow would melt. But I guess that would just mean I would or will have to deal with the mud.

    Which wood dries the fastest??

If you have any cedar, that's the perfect wood to start a fire.

    Hedge?

Ok, I see this listed as one of the best fire woods to burn, but what is it? I live in South Eastern NY and I have never heard of it. Does it go by another name? Thanks

    favorite kinds of firewood

Love White Oak, but not alot around. Red Oak easy to split and stack Ash, enough said. Have alot of Black locust, one fell on house 2' and another 2' fell on shed and destroyed it. About 2 cords in each.

How did I live without this tool?

I think this is the same company you guys were talking about. Peavey Manufacturing Company - products_logging_tools_pickeroons. I was just looking at it and I can't believe all the different types and heads on them. Def need to get one.

    Anyone else burning yet?

Temps just getting into upper 50's at night. Can't wait for it to get into 40's. Its not the heat so much, but the humidity that gets me. When you walk outside and without doing anything the sweat just drips off you. Come on Fall!

    Where should you burn?

I would like to burn some stuff, but they put a burn ban in effect until Oct. 10th. Not sure why since all it seem to be doing is raining almost every other day. Not steady but down pours from storms. I know grass just keeps on growing!

Emerald Ash Borer confirmed in Connecticut

They put up those traps to find out if they are spreading, why can't they put up traps to kill them like someone suggested. Seems to me a waste because for a couple of years they said they were on the West side of the Hudson river but ther're here now. All the ash trees are dying.

    Black Locust

I always burn Black Locust if I have it. It burns when well seasoned like coal. Late last summer when we had Irene, alot of BL came down around here. I was looking at it and it doesn't seem to have a large root system. I would be worried if I had any trees close around the house. If I find...

    im no pro...

I'm no expert either, but if it was leaning alot, then sometimes you need to made side cuts to relieve the pressure on the tree.

Anyone figure out how to run A.C. with wood yet? What's up with this March weather?

I don't know what the temp was yesterday, must have been pushing 80, but changed out the log splitter for the tiller. Tilled the garden and planted lettuce, cabbage and broccoli.
