What's your preferred chain type for bars over 60"?

I have been running an MS 880 with a 59" bar on my alaskan for about 8 years now and will be moving to some bigger bars and another power head (880) now. Most likely an 87" double ender. Here is my question. Those of you guys here who have these mills, what chains do you like for hardwoods...

Does anybody run circular mills here?

I have seen some circs run and man they push out the board foot, no denying that. And the same for the vertical band mills. I have a big walnut company here across the river and they run a vertical band. I have never seen so much wood in my life. The logs that contain steel they rail down to...

Does anybody run circular mills here?

Funny, What circs out there can cut a 56" slab? 56" blade / 2 = 28" so.... 28" < 56" Wait how bout this circ blade........60" 60" /2 = 30" so.... 30"<56" hmm..... Yes...yes... Chainsaw boys are simply a different breed. 36" or less is cute... Go big or go home...

    Pine blue stain

What my forestry instructor here in Nebraska told us was that the beetle comes in (bores and breaks up the cambium), has a nematode on it, and the nematode carries the bacteria. Scotch pine or (scotts pine) ((Pinus sylvestris)) is what they kill around here. All I have seen... is this stuff fly...

    Band saw wheels

Oh I'm sure I'm the 23 year old idiot here! That is assured. On the back of the H block there is 4 holes. 2 smooth and 2 threaded. Are the threaded (H block) suppose to match up with the threaded on the pulley? Or who cares because these only act as set screws so the H block doesn't slip...

    Band saw wheels

Alrighty. Ill order those tonight. Are the treads suppose to line up on the H blocks and pulley? Seems like a tight fit. Or are you guys going to use the smooth bore holes in the H block? Or is this a stupid question?

Ah just found out what the "B" width means on the pully and belt. :msp_biggrin: but still not sure about which belts. Heavy Duty Grooved Urethane V-Belts For Band Wheels | Suffolk Machinery - Timber Wolf Bandsaw Blades for Surplus Center - 18.75 O.D. H-BUSHING SINGLE GROOVE PULLEY

    Band saw wheels

So if there is no stamping then how do we know which belts to order? The B-56 and the BMX-18.75 both say the are 5/8 wide, but aren't our wheels 7/8? Also what blades are you guys going to run? Will a 1 1/4" blade be able to run on that?

Cutting slab wood for a coffee table

30" Cherry. Is gold worth more or cherry? If I could get a 16" cherry here I would spend the day getting everything, down to a 2" board, out of it, while a 36" Burr Oak log lay on the ground. YEAH. Lucky duck!

Saw and CSM recommendations... (another one, I know..) Help?

"My logs wont be over 24" diameter" This is what I said before I got my 880.:) Im swimming in 50" slabs now. BIG hardwoods here though. 660 is the way to go. Watch ebay or craigslist or, if you want the peace of mind, buy a new one. (bit of cash but worth it) Will pull a 36" bar and give you...

American Elm with the Pro Cut.

I have the aux oiler that Granberg makes but i just cant bring myself to drill a bar that expensive. I may experiment with the dripping method next weekend though. I seem to have enough oil most of the time though.
