    Boots

I need logging/hiking boots for cutting and other woods adventures. I have a slightly wide forefoot and narrow heel, however, and most lower-end brands (Hermans, Timberland, etc) are built with wide heels and narrow fronts these days. Most boots these days also have cloth interiors, which is...

While I'm generally a fan of these cheapo things (and do have a couple of them), this particular ad is just a little weak. What's wrong with this picture? 52cc 20" Gasoline 2 Stroke Aluminum Crankcase Gas Power Chainsaw 4 Cutting Wood | eBay JayC

    Chinese saw question

Where are you, exactly? I'm near Nashua. I'm good for now with the washers, and I'm pretty sure I can't get factory replacement studs (not that I would want to). I was hoping that someone who tore one down would see this thread and offer advice. I did see a couple of build-off threads in...

    Chinese saw question

I have a question regarding the infamous 52cc chinese saws that have a million brand names, colors, and can be had for $100. They all look like these: Before anyone gets all up in arms regarding the pros/cons of these things, let me say that I have had this saw for two years, and used it...

    Efco 951 - opinions?

A friend offered me an Efco 951 for fairly cheap - '01 model. It seems like a pretty good runner - lots of compression and runs well. The seller is older, and is selling it simply because it is hard to pull (did I mention good compression)? I haven't been able to find much info about the saw...

Which would you run in your saws?

Definitely 87 octane non-ethanol. No saw needs higher octane, but all saws will benefit by not putting ethanol in them. JayC

    Stihl eats cap thingie

My 036 Pro's cap doesn't have one of those new-fangled flippy thingies, but the plastic rod/rope/ball looks similar. I haven't done much cutting with the saw, and never noticed the plastic rope. It looks like all is fine. I got the saw off e-bay for $200 delivered :hmm3grin2orange: - it's...

    Problems with Stihl Ultra Oil

50:1 is not enough oil, IMHO, especially for a bitty engine like a chainsaw that runs WFO all the time. I generally run roughly 25:1 in my saws, and never less than 32:1 (32:1 only when using a high-performance oil like Yamalube). JayC

    Stihl eats cap thingie

I popped the bar oil cover on my Stihl 036 Pro, and found a the plastic lead in a weird state. There was an inch or so of normal plastic lead, then a string-like section - looked like the plastic was twisted until it became like a string, then a ball on the end. It looks like the plastic cap...

    super or regular gas

Old wives' tale. Firstly, lower octane will not "gum up" anything. All is can do is allow predetonation if the compression ratio is too high. 2-strokes are low-compression motors to start with, and saw motors are relatively low-performance as far as 2-strokes go, so I'd doubt that any...

    Visit to the ER

I generally do too. I'm amazed (and embarrassed) that I spaced enough to get bit. It was minor - didn't saw into the muscle (thank gawd), and didn't really hurt (at least not yet). Good thing chicks dig scars, that's all I can say :). JayC

    Visit to the ER

I never thought I'd get tangled up with a chainsaw, at least not due to being too complacent or not paying attention. I am always very careful and respectful of the business end of power tools, especially scary tools with exposed spinning blades, like chainsaws. Well, evidently not today. I...

    Chi-com saw is DEAD

Both of my saws leaked fuel from the fuel cap. I had to smooth the bearing edge on the tank to eliminate the problem - I still store my Chicom on it's side with the caps up just in case. 40:1 might be a little light - I run 25:1 w/ crap oil (Walmart) or 32:1 using Yamalube (dirt bike mix) in...

    Chi-com saw is DEAD

What is the compatible bar for these 52cc saws? The guy I bought mine from said they are the same as Echo, but I never checked. Let us know what exactly you get and how it works out. JayC

    Chi-com saw is DEAD

I also had clutch problems with my first saw - one of the spring retainer ears was broken off. The dealer who sold it (in western Canada) didn't know how to take a clutch off, so he ended up sending me a whole new saw body, so I now have most of a spare motor. I made a clutch removal tool by...
