    I cut firewood because I ........

See I wasn't buying any of that exercise, saving money, fun with power equipment and "time out in the woods" malarkey. Now the truth is starting to come out and confirm what I have known all along - you're all just fire worshiping pagans who like sending things into the fiery depths! My master...

Does anyone else find it amazing how many people simply cannot sharpen a saw?

the following sums it up pretty well, from Beranek - Fundamentals : "If there are just one or two odd short cutters on the chain, bringing the rest down to match will be a waste of chain, time and money. An odd short cutter on the chain won't hamper the overall performance of the chain, but...

Just to prove we're nuts...fav split shape

Well, he's put in a whole lotta good years, but we might have to think about getting a PCA in there. We can't just have him wandering around on the streets unsupervised trying to take away children's building blocks. It'll be safer for everyone and we won't have to worry. He'll still have access...

Does anyone else find it amazing how many people simply cannot sharpen a saw?

A lot of the mistakes that I see from beginners on hand filing is from trying to jump into it too fast without knowing the reasoning behind it, i.e. why are the rakers set at a certain height, why are the cutters filed at a certain angle, why is the file supposed to be a certain amount under...

Does anyone else find it amazing how many people simply cannot sharpen a saw?

I was out cutting firewood a few years back with a friend and another guy he invited. After a while when it's time to refilll his friend takes off his chain, winds up, and slings it half-way up the hill. "wtf?" we are both thinking... "What's wrong?" sez I.... "That one's dull", he sez, and...

    hybred poplar

It'll be WBTYM. Probably 60% at most of ash/oak burn time. Leave it in as big of chunks as you can fit to extend it a bit.

What are you using for a day box?

http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/carrying-extra-chains-how.224864/page-3#post-4647315 I use a backpack, easier to carry into the bush or up hills IMO

Don't know if this what is going on or not with the multiple posts, but I notice after I hit the "Post Reply" button, that sometimes the little timer doodad that pops up ( I don't know what to call it, the 'busy' thing? ), well it gets busy for a while and then disappears but your post doesn't...

Anybody else here notice people eyeing up your woodpile?

+1 In this day and age, these are VERY effective because a video camera is no longer a luxury item. With computers it gets easier and easier every year to have a surveillance system. You still get the occasional person who isn't smart enough to have figured this out yet, but most don't want to...

out of all your saws which one

Ditto. I'd keep at least one to make money with, but it would be used as collateral on whatever I could borrow for sure. I would never part with my dad's 029. Not very exciting, but was the saw I started on as a kid, never let me down over the years no matter how much it was abused and I used...

    Brad? WTH are you doing?

Well.... I guess that'll be ok for now. As long as it has lots of pictures and videos and not very many hard words. I like those picture books, like the ones in the Ute section at the library - that's shop lingo for Utility they told me.
