    Need some convincing

I have 2 of them. Great saws. My climbers like them in the tree for making bigger cuts.

    I can't hand file a chain!

Try the Stihl 2 in 1 file guide. They are actually made by Pferd. Stihl carries 3 sizes, Pferd also has the size for the .404 pitch chain. You need to get the right size for your saw. I keep these on all the trucks and all my guys know how to use them. We sharpen the chains once per 2 fillups...

Bandit 250 Knife Bolts, What angle?

Check the angle of the bolts you removed with an angle measuring device. And I would recommend buying the proper bolts from Bandit. These are critical. The angle must match the hole in the blade and they need to be high quality. I've had 3 bolts break in recent years on different chippers, the...

    Bandit 990 feed wheel speed

The Bandit dealer I bought the chipper from. Flow Control # 904-0011-51. The kit I bought is for the 990 with lift cylinder and autofeed plus. Not sure if its different for other configurations.

    Bandit 990 feed wheel speed

Cost less than $600.00. Includes all hardware and hoses. Need to weld a bracket to the side. Works very well. The chipper is less likely to clog and its safer to be near the infeed area since the brush doesn't fly up and down as much. I recommend it.

    Bandit 990 feed wheel speed

We have a Bandit 990 with 900 hours on it. Relatively little trouble with it over the years. Recently installed the retrofit kit to slow down the feed wheel speed. Makes chipping dead Ash brush much better, doesn't throw it up so violently.

    New Dodge/ Ford Trucks

Local cable company is using the new F550 with gas engines for their bucket/service trucks. New emission standards for diesels are making the engines complicated and expensive. Local Bandit dealer has a new XP990 with a GM 3 liter gas engine. And nobody can explain why filters and parts for...

    pusher fan bandit

On my chippers I cut a piece of bulk washable furnace filter to cover the radiator behind the grill/guard. I wash it often. Makes a huge difference in keeping the radiator clean. If the filter gets too clogged the engine will overheat. Keep it clean and watch the temp gauge in the hot weather.

Workmans Comp code 0042 and 0106

My insurance company makes me sign a document stating that I do not own any other business.

Workmans Comp code 0042 and 0106

Yes, thanks. Unfortunately for me my insurance company decided two years ago to require all my payroll be under code 0106 since part of it is. Their policy/requirements now state that "If any part of the business operations include tree pruning (0106) then all payroll will be subjected to code...

What do you mean by "The invoices have to be proportional to the wages paid"?

    $10,000 repair bill, help

Three years ago the Deutz engine in my Carlton 4400 snapped a connecting rod and punched a hole in the block. The new emissions rules for off road diesel engines caused Deutz to drop out of the US market. I spent a lot of time searching for a replacement, used engines bring high prices. I...

thoughts on buying a sandblasting cabinet for saw prep

Is rust on steel parts more of a problem with the water setup? Yes with a vapor honing system. In my world of restoration bare steel parts get treated, plated, coated or painted right away.

thoughts on buying a sandblasting cabinet for saw prep

You might want to consider one of these: http://vaporhoningtechnologies.com/bench-top-vapor-hone-650-wet-blasting-machine/ I plan on getting one soon, I restore motorcycles as well as repair chainsaws. They have different sizes. YouTube has videos of these in operation.

    MS661 Clutch Problem

The "squigly metal piece" engages a notch in the clutch drum and spins what you are holding in your hand. This drives the oil pump. If the clutch springs are weak or the saw is idling too high then the clutch shoes will engage the drum. If the brake is on there will be friction resulting in...

Grinding Wheel Safety - Saw Chain Sharpening

I gave away all my electric bench mount grinders, hand held grinders and filing jigs, rigs and gadgets after I tried this: These are on all my trucks and all my guys know how to use them.

Workmans Comp code 0042 and 0106

My insurance company. Most companies will not cover Tree Pruning. Those that do are requiring a minimum premium of $10K - $20K. They all interpret the state code classifications as they see fit. Even though I maintain detailed payroll records the auditor can state that the records are not...

Workmans Comp code 0042 and 0106

Anyone having trouble in the last 2 years with being able to separate employees payroll classification codes? I've been able to do this for 24 years by maintaining accurate records. Now I'm required to pay for code 0106 (Tree pruning) for everyone. I have employees who never climb (Code 0042...
