A reality check for a wannabe CS miller please.

Yeah Bob me either. To the original poster these guys are telling it like it is and let me assure you BobL Wrote the exam to get a PhD in chain milling. That said I guess you guys would freak out the way I do it, but I guess I'll need to make a video. I NEVER use wedges. My last day out I...

    Im looking at a minimill....

If you have the required aptitude to mill lumber I suspect you are probably capable of building your own Alaskan type mill on the cheap. That said, get the BIGGEST saw you can afford. I really dont think you can have too much power while milling, period. the 056 may well get you started, but...

    Back support belt?

Miller, you may think I'm nuts, (Doesn't everyone?) but the very best thing you can do, assuming you are otherwise healthy, is work out and strengthen your stomach muscles. These muscles serve as guy wires to your spine. make your guts hard and your back wont hurt. You get the hillbilly stamp...

How to grow fruit on a 60+ year old tangerine tree

"Most varieties of mandarins are self-pollinated and self-fruitful, but some of the hybrids are self-incompatible and will produce few fruit without the presence of suitable pollenizer varieties nearby. Mandarins tend to alternate bearing, with a heavy crop in one year followed by a lighter crop...

Noob looking for advice, log cabin project

As a contractor I would be very afraid to use the creosoted poles...personally I'm not a bit afraid of it. However liability is an issue. if the epa got wind of it that there were creosoted logs there they'd condemn that bad boy like it was made out of the reactor lid from Chernobyl. I'd hate to...

A bigger mill- 2 power heads or one?

Two powerheads will give more available power and due to the added power, possibly a higher average cutting speed, it will not give a higher maximum cutting speed with the same chain setup.

    Big Oak

Agree, however I'm betting the hollow only goes so far...I'm also betting it'll take at least a couple kits worth of wedges but that it is certainly doable.

    Big Oak

Flush, I thought the same thing. With a log that size hes gonna need twenty wedges....

Bar Drilling- Learned new 4-letter words

In my experience there is a great disparity in bar hardness, but have not really noticed an adverse wear condition on the "softer" ones. It could be on some that only the rails and edges are hardened fully. whatever the case, good for you! may we all enjoy your good fortune...

Where have all the Ripsaw users gone?

I reckon I'd call them and ask them how long its going to take to re stack the molecules. I mean it might make sense if you sent it to some shop on the butt of Africa and they were making the parts out of elephant bones, but for crying out loud, they ARE the manufacturer. How long could it...
