    Saw Dogs

I'm sad to say that I agree completely. I guess I was hoping this one would be different. These guys do some amazing carving. I just want to see them work, not all the fabricated drama. Another thing is that Steve Blanchard never carves anything on the show. Maybe it should be called the...

    Carving Cants - drying issues

First thing is to get some really good grain sealer on the ends to slow down the water escaping. You will get end cracking anyway, so be sure to leave it longer than you want to end up so you have room to trim the ends later. If the pith is left in the log, it will almost always crack...

    MS 211 or MS 250

Realizing that you already got the 250 ... for anybody else wondering the same thing... I have both of those saws. It just depends on what you want to do with it. The 211 is lighter, smoother, and uses less fuel. The 250 has more power. Both are good little saws. If you are looking for...

    MS211 Owners Opinion

I love my MS211. It's a great little saw -- plenty of power for it's size, lightweight, smooth. I really like the picco bar/chain on that saw. I would definitely buy it again. And yes, it has a tendency to leak bar oil. It didn't leak when it was new, but it started not too long after that...

    Anyone prefer the cheap stihls

I don't know that I would say I prefer them on a truly even ground. For example, if I had an MS241, my MS250 might not ever see the light of day. But I have a couple homeowner grade Stihls and they can get a lot of work done with a bargain price tag. Lightweight and simple has it's place, and...

Opinions requested: how to remove branch (pic included)

The pictures don't show how much is still attached. The safest thing to do would be to put a cable choker on it at the left (downed) end and try to pull it out from a safe distance -- if it is broken off enough to break free. Otherwise you pretty much have to get up there and find a safe way...

Best way to dry green wood

The best way in your case would be to rough cut it into oversized pen blanks (to accomodate some warpage) and then dry those, since pen blanks will dry pretty quickly (compared to a large chunk). Microwaving can work, but it runs a high risk of splitting the wood, and takes a lot of time. I...

    Stihl 250 electrical issue

It attaches next to the control lever, so that when the lever is in the off position it grounds out the ignition. Here is a bad picture, but maybe it will help...

    husky -n- stihl

Of those two, I prefer the MS250. But the 445 isn't bad. Depends on what you like better. Since you are coming from a 660, I think you should consider a 50cc saw as a better fit. Something like a 346xp would be worth considering if you are willing to accept a little more weight.

    Tool Forum

I have one of those old DeWalts too, and there is quite a large community of owners out there. The best thing you can do for your radial is to get a negative rake tooth blade for it. Positive rake hook-tooth blades greatly increase the tendency to climb-cut and be hard to control.

what kind of loppers with yellow handles; can't read

I've got some yellow ones (not telescoping) that are from Sears. Seems like i've seen yellow handle ones in a lot of local hardware stores too. I don't recall the name on them.

    Rookie question

Absolutely you can fall trees wider than the bar. Lots of people do it every day. For starters, check out these books: "Professional Timber Falling" by Douglas Dent, and "To Fell a Tree" by Jeff Jepson. The really short version is that you [obviously] need to work your way around the...

    026

The MS261 would be a big improvement over the 026 with a 20" bar. It's closer to the performance of a stock 361, but in the package of a 50cc saw. The other obvious choice would be the Husky 346xp. If those won't get it done, you just need a bigger saw.

Best stihl saw for 12" to 14" bar

MS200/MS201 rear handle are great little saws if you are willing to spend that much cash for a little saw. For something that small (from Stihl), I like the MS211. It's light and nimble, inexpensive, and has an adjustable carb.

    14" PICCO chain/bar on a MS250

Picco is a nice setup on the MS250. I've done that (at times) on mine to match the setup on my MS211. I don't have the info in front of me, but I think there was only one rim sprocket choice for Picco (and two for the spur). Spur sprockets are easier to find for Picco. What I would really...
